In this paper, the researcher will explore whether or not marijuana is harmful to your physical health. It will be shown that marijuana is popular and that many people may not know what they are taking into their bodies. It will be shown just what parts of the body marijuana effects and how it effects them. The main purpose of this collection of information is to see just what marijuana does to the body and to determine whether the effects are good, bad, or a combination of both. Many different areas of research will be used.
Marijuana is a Social Problem "Marijuana is the second most popular drug after alcohol in the country today. So many people smoke marijuana that the numbers alone seem to legitimize and condone its presence in people's lives. Yet, even in moderation marijuana is not 'safe.' Somehow this information had not filtered down to people who think they are smoking a fairly innocuous drug. Our society perpetuates the myths about pot being a fun, harmless, recreational drug.
I personally believe that legalizing the drug across the United States of America would help fight its usage and save us a lot of cash (Marijuana, 1999). “Prohibition does not work. Education and treatment are better ways to address the drug problem” (Marijuana, 1999). Prohibition has failed to ... ... middle of paper ... ... criminal gangs like the Al-Qaeda and the Mexican drug war lords. This is because smuggling and foreign cultivation would not be extremely profitable.
The increased campaign awareness to legalize marijuana has shown youths believe marijuana is less harmful than many other drugs out there like cigarettes and alcohol(Say it Straight). This is simply not true, in fact marijuana has 425 unstable chemicals that convert to thousands when smoked by the user(Say it Straight). ... ... middle of paper ... ...rage marijuana consumer and also provide needed tax dollars for the government so they can crack down on really harmful drugs such as heroin and cocaine. My view is summed up best by this quote “Adults should be allowed to live as they wish, provided they do not harm others...the government should not outlaw...To do so would be to substitute the government’s tastes and moral judgment for those of the individual, and unjustified violation of personal freedom by the state.”(qtd. in Nagorney) Which is my point exactly.
Most Marijuana users are casual users. They fight for legalized marijuana because they feel it should be their right to be able to enjoy this drug when they want. The government claims that legal marijuana would cause extremely widespread use and become an epidemic. They say that people would become dependent on the drug like tobacco or alcohol. Marijuana is not addictive.
The NIDA published many claims concerning marijuana use, but they did not have evidence to support their claims (Weir 26). This misinformation and the government’s campaign against marijuana made the legalization of marijuana impossible. Marijuana is a harmless drug, but it has not been legalized because people believe most of the anti-marijuana claims. Research studies have proven that marijuana helps the individual experience a sense of well being, relieves fatigue, stimulates the appetite, and induces a feeling of mild stimulation (McDonough 50). Another advantage of marijuana is that experienced users can control the degree and quality of the intoxication by “coming down” when it is necessary to perform (McDonough 50).
Yes some people use marijuana just for fun but that does not mean people that use it medically cannot. The most addictive drug, even above heroin, is nicotine. Probably the biggest argument against marijuana is that it’s a “gateway drug.” Many people claim that consuming marijuana greatly increases your chance of doing harder drugs like cocaine and heroin. Some even say it leads people to sell it and commit other crimes such as robbing. That is not the case.
Marijuana essay Marijuana has been widely mis-viewed as a bad thing; society classifies marijuana as a drug, parents warn their children to stay away from marijuana because it is bad; but those are all misconceptions. But in reality, it is actually a very beneficial drug to many degrees. Marijuana actually has numerous favorable effects, such as helping people escape the cruel reality for a moment, helping patients who are almost at the end of their lives feel better, and helping the economy recover. In addition, marijuana’s side effects are all due to human abusing it, like the old saying goes, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Although marijuana users have a history of not doing so well in life, marijuana should still be made available to anyone above the legal drinking age and be regulated like tobacco and alcohol; due to its assuaging effects to the economy and human’s mental health.
Those who choose to smoke weed are going to smoke it whether it is legal or not it’s a personal choice just like there are those who drink and those who choose not to drink. One of the problems with letting people smoke weed legally allows them to make irrational decisions because they are high. There is a difference between people who smoke weed to get high and smoke weed for medicinal purposes and the ones that smoke it to get high only are the ones that are going to hurt people. With weed being such a casual drug to do, it makes it one of the most common street drugs used by teens today. It is easy to find, cheap to grow and cheap to buy, if bought from the right place.
Marijuana is the flower of the cannabis plant, and if smoked, gives the smoker an euphoric high, but really has much more to offer than just the high. Using marijuana and the growing of hemp are presently illegal in the United States, with the exception of medicinal uses in some states. The legalization of marijuana has many advantages including for simple personal enjoyment, the usage of hemp and its by-products, and medicinal purposes. Why should marijuana be illegal when people just use it to help themselves enjoy their lives more? Tobacco and alcohol are both used, and abused for the same reasons, but with many more negative side effects than pot.
