As a coach, the manager has the role to train and motivate the people they must lead. This means that a manager is expected to have certain skills and expertise in the area of their work. Coaching can be a vital way of developing and nurturing people's skills and abilities. Coaching can also help solve issues and challenges before they develop into major problems. A leader, a manager, and a manager as coach share one thing in common. They all work towards a specific goal and uses resources to accomplish that goal. The role of a manager as coach does not fit the healthcare system. The healthcare system needs good managers and leaders and not coaches. Leadership development is critical in any level of organization (McNamara, 2007). Healthcare is among the most regulated of all industries in the world (Garman, 2006). So good leaders and managers are vital for a healthcare system to succeed. The health care sector requires extensive experience, training, and skills. All these cannot be acquired from what students learn in schools. Most of the experienced is acquired in the field. The Manager Coach approach would be more appropriate. The team leader who is expected to be more experienced and skilled can easily instill the same to the rest of the team members.
