The U.S. currently spends the most on health care yet 45 million people are currently uninsured. Most individuals have health insurance privately through their employers and Medicare/Medicaid are picking up some of the slack for those that do not have insurance.
Managed care started in the 1980’s to help lower expenses. Managed care is a health care system that has administrative control to help eliminate services and reduce the costs. Health education and preventive medicine are encouraged with this service. . Prior arrangements are made between physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, etc. to find the best prices. Many were upset with this plan and a managed care backlash was started. Patients stated that they were being denied medically necessary
