The phrase “man up” implies the building up of enough courage, usually for men, to face adversity and take responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Wasn’t it just several hour prior that Jesus was eating, drinking and singing with these very same men? And now, they all ran away and Peter even denied Him three times. After the death of Jesus and before the sun went down, Joseph garnered enough courage to go to Pilate and ask for the body of Christ so that he may give Him a proper burial. For a Sanhedrin, this was very risky. What do you think would have happened if Joseph did not get the courage to do so? How would the story change? How would our behavior change? Paul said, “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” The Holy Spirit, God Himself, dwells inside of us every second of every minute of every hour of every day. We do not need to think about what it would be like to have Jesus follow us around for one day because already does and that gives us the advantage in this world. To be strong in the Lord requires us to put on the whole armor of God, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, every day. The reason is because “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” As a follower of Christ, our battle is not against those lost people we meet every day at work, at school, while shopping stores, etc. We are battling against Satan and his
