2. On page 9 of the textbook Bucher states, " Technological advances have transformed our social world into what Marshall McLuhan termed a global village." What does he mean?

In my opinion Marshall McLuhan’s referring to the World as a global village since the advancement in technology have unbarred many divisions among people and brought them to one platform. However, this is no different than how great empires expanded their ventures by learning about other cultures, religions and languages in many cases the bureaucratic machinery hired many people from the land that the empire had conquered. This includes Hispanics, females. Old citizens and immigrants as well. However, the immigration of younger and newer people to the US will play the biggest role in the continues trend in the job market. In many cases immigrants tend to start and agree to work on lower wages at least in the beginning. I personally think that it's too early to predict anything in regards to the workforce in the US. Not many years ago I was under the impression that the new technological advances and cheap labor overseas will eliminate many blue collar workers which was true to a certain extent although, now the trend is that many of the companies are migrating not over seas but in the towns within the US in order to explore cheap work force. Education is another factor in the creation of work force in the US the market is very competitive due to the type of demands that are necessary for big and small businesses. Since the United States have been a melting pot for the people of all cultures and societies around the world the corporations are in ever faster need to hire the people with the global expertise, people with the background in multilingual and multicultural education. That includes me as well and I can further educate myself to compete and stay the part of a work
