Are humans born innocent? This debate has been in duration for past several years from now. But the answer of this is still balanced over two parallel boats of yes they are innocent or no they are born sinners i.e. the original sin theory. The majority goes for that they are born innocent. This also sounds authentic to ears because a child who is just born and came in the reality of the World, which is a place where everyone even for once had committed sin, does not has any contact with it till yet then how can he/she can be claimed sinner at their birth only. But the World of 16th century also this was the case. When Shakespeare wrote Macbeth, the character Macbeth when kills King Duncan it was because of his inner desire, his ambition to get more from what he already had. Macbeth was already one of the loyal soldier of the King but even then he was provoked to commit this sin of murder. Macbeth was symbolized as a loyal and hardworking human in the play but later when he was shown of a higher position and power, his ambition for the utmost power and also the continuous provoking from Lady Macbeth did the work of putting clarified butter in fire made him kill King Duncan and represent him as an example that situations and ambitions make one do foul deeds. In this whole scene we also get to know that sometimes there are outer forces too that put up a hand in performing that sinful act. When the phrase of ‘murderer of sleep’ is used in the play it reflects that Macbeth killed his own innocence by this act of his. He just does not killed the King but also his inborn innocence, all just being derived by his ambition to gain power and position.
