The MGN 20 was issued on 1997 by the UK Maritime Safety Agency in order to promote and establish a safe working environment, safeguard the health of the employees involved in the shipping industry and protect the environment before the compulsory implementation of the ISM code on 1998. The MGN 20 note as mentioned in the reflective exercise brief can be said to be as a broad guideline for the adoption of safe working practices in the shipping industry. For task two I will be analyzing video under the generalist heading and under the subheading Integrating Mathematics and Science number 142. The video is of a third grade classroom conducting an experiment about different types of soil. They are to test which types absorb more water and which how fast the water goes through the water. When I found out I qualified to be a candidate for the NJHS, I knew I had to take this chance. This group is made up of people who depict leadership, character, citizenship, academic success, and service and I would love to join. These characteristics wouldn't just be valuable for a candidate to have, but for everyone to have to exceed in life. If I were to be in the National Junior Honor Society, it would give me an opportunity to ameliorate my future and motivate me to do better.
Selah Saterstrom’s The Pink Institution is a novel set in the Deep South following the Civil War. To sum up the ISM code was introduced after in particular the British ship, The Herald of Free Enterprise capsized as a result of various human errors both on the ship and also ashore. The ISM is main objectives are to increase the safety of personal at sea and also to reduce the chance of pollution at sea damaging the marine environment. The ISM code applies to practically all sea going vessels and will itself continually reviewed and changed to always be improving safety standards at sea. Unfortunately this means learning from mistakes of future accidents in order to prevent them from happening in the future and there may be further changes from a result of what happened with the Costa Concordia. As a last point it is clear that any initial costs implementing an effective SMS system will always be overcome by the profits gained by having an effective system.
