Romeo and Juliet is a classic love story written by William Shakespeare. The so called love story seems to focus on lust and may not necessarily be the best example of what true love really is. The two main characters Romeo, and Juliet are said to be “star crossed lovers.” Coming from families that hate one another, they have to go to extreme measures to be together. Looking at the story from the outside, it’s hard to understand how one can come to love so quickly. This raises the question of whether Romeo and Juliet are actually in love or do they just lust for one another? When one loves, they develop a deep emotional attachment to the other person and this is something that cannot be accomplished overnight. Many characteristics such as …show more content…

She is so young and does not know what love really is. Shakespeare informs the reader about the forced marriage and of Rosaline prior to the dinner because he wants to suggest that they are in a depressed state of mind while in attendance. The reader can visualize both sides of the story and see that Romeo and Juliet are searching for an escape from the circumstances they are currently in. Since they are both upset and have an emptiness inside, it is much easier to find an excuse to be attracted to another person. A good relationship requires a lot of time and effort to accomplish. The way they hurried through everything shows that they did not actually have time to fall in love with each other. They certainly showed their lust through the serious decisions made at the spur of the moment. Romeo said, “We met, we woo’d, and made exchange of vow.” This statement truly explains how fast everything happened. Love is patient while lust is always in a hurry. How many people have gotten married within a week of knowing the other? He could have asked to marry her because he didn’t want to wait so long before they were married to have sex.
