Love at first sight is not real, and it can lead to bad decisions.
In Romeo and Juliet, they think they're in love the first time they meet. A summary of their tragic love story “...fatal loins of these two foes a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life whose misadventured piteous overthrows doth with their death bury their parents' strife.The fearful passage of their death-marked love and the continuance of their parents' rage which but their children’s end”(prologue of R and J). What they fail to realize is that its two kids were talking about, they don't know what love is. They don't understand what they feel for each other. They wanted or they had an obsession with each other which made Romeo want to get as close to Juliet as possible. Like in act 1 scene 5 when Romeo said “ Did my Heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night”. This shows Romeo wants Roseline and now Juliet because of their beauty with a lust of sexual gratification and an obsession of physical attraction.
Romeo and Juliet are not truly in love, for their minds are clouded by lust and an obsession with physical attraction. “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night ( act 1 scene 5). That quote shows that it's not true love, Romeo just saw her and based off her beauty he loves her, but that's not love. At the start of the play we see that Romeo is in love with Roseline and that he only talks about her but when he meets Juliet at the party he totally forgets Roseline and falls in love with Juliet.
It’s often said that love at first sight is what occurred in this dismal story but you can not truly be in love until you have gotten to know the person and actually talked to them. When Romeo first saw Juliet he was already saying he was in love with her and didn’t even speak to her, “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight!” (I.V.52). When in actual, true love you must know the person. Juliet had just learned his name and she was already calling him her love, “My only love, sprung from my only hate!” (I.V.138). On top of that, they were just teenagers. Majority of all teenagers suffer from mood swings due to the hormones raging through their body. One day they’re angry the next they’re sad, so how could they have truly known what they have wanted? Yes, it is possible for teenagers to be in love, but it’s hard to tell whether it’s actual love. “One fairer than my love? The all-seeing sun” (I.II.96) In that line he was talking about a girl he met before he met Juliet, Romeo was claiming he was in love with her, Rosaline, and he was really down about that sitatuion. “Is Rosaline that thou didst love so dear, / So soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.” (II.III.66-68) Friar Lawrence even pointed it out; if he was able to get over Rosaline that quickly then he did not love her. Their youthful love plays a big role in their irrational decisions and their love blossoming so intensely and so quickly. “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! Firstly, being married did not make it true love. According to Lacy Talerico on the topic of 2 teens, Andi Bresher and Mitchel James, that got married at the age of 18, “Even at a young age, these teens say they know exactly what they are looking for in a significant other, and it does not seem to matter that they have found it so early in life” (Talerico para.2). These two teens found love at a young age so it is not far-fetched that Romeo and Juliet could have truly been in love. Also, these teens prove that young people do not have to wait to marry and that young people can make life decisions such as marriage. But according to James C. Dobson, Ph.D, “those who wed between 14 and 17 years of age are twice as likely to divorce as couples who wait until their 20’s,” (Kecskes, para.1). So even if these teens had stayed alive then the odds of them getting divorced or even killing themselves was definitely higher than others. This also could mean that the reason these teens got married was because of lust and not true love. From the moment, Romeo “loves” Rosaline to the day he attends the Capulet ball and first sees Juliet, it is clear that love is a major factor throughout the play. At the ball Romeo had just met Juliet for the first time and eventually kissed her before leaving. “My only love sprung from my only hate! / Too early seen unknown, and known too late!/ Prodigious birth of love it is to me/That I must love a loathed enemy(I.V.138-141) is what she declares to her nurse, after only mere minutes she already loves Romeo who is her enemy, which she knows she cannot do, as it could potentially ruin the two families relationship even more. Then, at the beginning of the play, Romeo is in love with another woman, and then all of a sudden he’s in love with Juliet, whom he’s barely met. What is up with that? You can not forget someone and fall for someone else that fast. The friar says it best when he says “Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear, so soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies not truly in their hearts but in their eyes.”
Despite what many people think, Romeo and Juliet is not a love story; rather a story of desperation and obsession. People have been reading Shakespeare for hundreds of years and several people have mistaken it for a love story, due to the fact that Romeo loves Juliet so much he is willing to kill himself when he finds her supposedly dead; she does the same when she wakes up to find him dead. But in fact, Romeo is more taken aback by her beauty than he is in love with her. Juliet is intrigued by the fact someone could love her because her parents are very unsupportive of her. When the two find each other, they immediately become obsessed, mistaking this for love at first sight.
Romeo and Juliet’s true love is being mistaken for infatuation because they are in lust and are not emotionally stable enough to be in true love.
True love is one of the most genuine, not to mention precious feelings in the world. In Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, a pair of lovers denotes the strength of true love and it's ability to overcome nearly all obstacles. However, this kind of love is a rarity due to it's pureness but somehow many cheap imitations are still mistaken for real love. Romeo and Juliet's love is authentic and by no means an infatuation seeing as first of all, they both risk their lives to see each other and would rather die than be separated. Juliet also has an unusual level of loyalty towards her partner for her age which supports the idea of true love. In addition, throughout the play, Romeo's demeanour started to change and he began to mature in a considerably short period of time. Young love is a petty sentiment nonetheless when it develops into a fully-fledged unconditional love, both partners will begin to evolve and will do nearly anything for the other.
Romeo and Juliet choose their own actions through their judgments, which were caused by their belief of everlasting love. Due to their unsound and absurd attitudes, both characters are dazed by love in a puerile manner. The relationship they created was actually built on lust and desperation. Firstly, Romeo is the first character whom shows immature love in the story as a whole. Once Capulet’s party is over, Romeo’s attitude leads him to jump over the wall to Juliet’s house and exclaim to her,” And what love can do, that dares love attempt./Therefore thy kinsmen are no stop to me”(2.2.68-9). I believe Romeo is both right and wrong: unrequited love is painful, but Romeo does not truly love - as he is merely infatuated by a woman. Another type of love we are exposed to during the same scene is the love of Lady Capulet. Lady Capulet, as well as The Nurse, believes love comes from appearance, both physical and political, and has nothing to do with emotion. She shows this when she speaks favorably of Paris's looks and his nobility. She also shows that it is a superficial love by the way she treats Capulet when she publicly denounces him.
When Romeo meets Juliet, he claimed to be immediately in love. Although he has been sulking over Rosaline, when he met Juliet, he states, “Did my heart love till now? forswear it sight! For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night” (Act 1.5 Lines 51-52). The entire time as he envisions love with Rosaline, it was all incoherent. Romeo’s impulsive attitude causes him to fall head over heels with Juliet, which begins the drama in this play.
Even before Juliet is introduced, Romeo considers himself to be in love with Rosaline. Although he says that it is true love, stating “..Doth add more grief to too much of mine own. Love is a smoke raised with the fume of sighs; Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers' eyes..” (Shakespeare, I.1.23), it is clear that his obsession with Rosaline is purely surface-level-- later on in this same scene, it is revealed that Rosaline is taking a vow of chastity, and after that, it could be inferred that Romeo does not know Rosaline well at all. He is simply interested in the concept of her, rather than being in true love with her. After he pursues Rosaline, and quickly gets over her at the masquerade party, Romeo moves on to Juliet, the two immediately “fall in love”, even though they are meeting for the first time. Romeo experiences the same thrill, speaking of Juliet in poems and flowery adjectives, for example, saying that “..It is the East, and Juliet is the sun.” (II.2.69) There are many other incidents where he speaks similarly about the two women, even though they are different. His similar fixation with the two different girls tells us something about Romeo: he is not in love with them specifically-- moreso, the idea of being in love and its caveats, a strong theme that Shakespeare

Romantic love is when somebody loves someone in a way that his or her heart connects with the other person’s heart and they go on dates, embrace each other, and sometimes get married to each other.
