Liverpool is the count seat of Merseyside and it is a second (after London) biggest seaport of northwestern England.
Liverpool is an English city which is known all over the world by the fact that it’s a birthplace of famous The Beatles. This fact makes the city an attractive place for all The Beatles fans. There are The Beatles Museum and John Lennon Airport - one of the fastest growing airports in Europe.
Also Liverpool is a birthplace of two famous football clubs such as Liverpool FC and Everton FC.
Furthermore you can visit the most popular horse race on the planet, which is called The Grand National Steeplechase.

It is about 180 miles (290 km) northwest of London.
Liverpool is linked with nearby industrial cities by a ship canal.
The city forms a crescent on the rather flat eastern bank of the Mersey River. The total area of the city is about 43 mi² (112 km²).
Liverpool has a typical English climate – a temperate maritime climate. It’s very unstable with a mix of rainy, sunny and cloudy days. Summers are usually sunny and warm, winters are wet and cold.
In Liverpool you can find a very well-developed transport system. There is an amazing railroad (which is more like a subway) and airport named after John Lennon. You can easily cross the Mersey River, which divides the city into two parts, on ferry. By the fact, under the river there are three tunnels; one of them is the railway.

History
Today we know Liverpool as the big and modern city that consists of many small areas, however hundreds years ago this area was nothing but one of the small fishing villages next to the Mersey River.

Another theory is that tha name Liverpool can mean «pool of laver», and the laver is a seaweed which was found in this place.
Unfortunately, the history of Liverpool’s symbol – the Liver Bird – also has been lost. However, there is a thought that the symbol is an image of a bird that could be seen in that area.
One of the main ways to observe history is looking at things that ancient people left behind themselves. One of such things can be found in the area of Liverpool and it is a circle of stones, which points out that around 4000 years ago there were the first people who lived in this area, now they known as Druids.
Officially, the history of Liverpool starts in 1207, when King John granted this area with the status of an official town. People started to come on the territory of the new town and orginise their lives and farms. The Royal Charter that was given to the area helped it to develop.
