In America, we are split in two different worlds, meaning there are two lifestyles in our society. One lifestyle is where America is more focused on the literate world. This lifestyle finds it important to understand and read things thoroughly in order to understand life. This side of America is capable to detect from what is right and what is wrong for our society. They firmly believe that education is an important factor in life. On the contrary the other lifestyle of America is the non-reality based belief system. These people believe that we do not have to understand and read everything that it is okay to just observe the images and get hints of what is going on in life. People who live in this lifestyle are unable to determine from what is right or wrong. They are calmer about certain situations that happen in our society rather than facing the reality of it.
Many people in our society have their high school diplomas but they are not fully capable of using it wisely. Many of the people who have their high school diplomas cannot even read at fifth grade level. Our country hands out diplomas to people who have not fulfilled or reached the standards of an adult level reading. Every year it gets worse people are unable to utilize their knowledge that they are supposed to learn in high school. After people graduate, many people do not further their knowledge besides what they were able to grasp in high school.
Many illiterate people vote in political campaigns without truly understanding why. They vote based on what they hear and see through advertisements. Majority of illiterate people do not read to inform themselves on who they are voting for. Today our society the political campaign is not based on who is right or who is wrong...

Our world is coming almost to end and people still do not realize that. Many others have lost their homes, cars and been cut down on their jobs. Our economy is becoming worse and worse. People are forced to declare bankruptcy and living in the United States is becoming harder. The people who try to entertain and attract our attention cannot help us solve these kinds of problems. They cannot solve why people are losing their jobs.
It is important to know who you are voting and why you are voting for them. Our society needs to stop focusing on how can the political candidate attract their attention or entertain them. They need to understand historical facts and separate the truth from the lies. We need change in our society because it is becoming worse. Obama spends tons of money to entertain us and attract us, but does not make any changes to better our country.
Political philosopher and social theorist Thomas Sowell has once said, “It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.” It is inevitable to meet an ignorant person around each corner that one turns. It is up to the victim to either let the ignorant person corrupt him or to let the victim become smarter. One of America’s greatest activists, Martin Luther King, believed that “Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.” With this in mind, “The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all” (Kennedy).
In the essay “The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society,” written by Jonathan Kozol, and published in Readings for Writers in New York in 2013, the author raises awareness to those willing to take action against the dangers of illiteracy in a society where one cannot thrive without such an ability. Throughout the writing, the author uses many powerful and intimate accounts of people who are illiterate and the times in which they were deemed helpless, as a tool to help the audience better understand the problem at hand. Mr. Kozol implements statistics as definitive evidence to show just how many persons are unable to read the written word. As another illustration of the dilemma still plaguing America to this day, he brings to light the
Society pushes today's youth towards higher education. The goal of grade school is to prepare the students for middle school. The goal of middle school is to prepare the students for high school. And finally the goal of high school is to prepare the students for college. The entire structure of education is to prepare youth for the next level of education. The problem with this system is that not all students are college material, as seen in the essay The Case Against College by Caroline Bird.
What could possibly be wrong with current public high school curriculum. Students attend 4 years of high school and receive a well-rounded education. This education allows the students to function as a valuable member of society without necessarily continuing their education beyond high school. What could possibly be wrong with all this? Well, what about the students who do choose to continue their education after high school? Does high school prepare students well? According to the statistics, the answer is no. ACT, a non-profit organization that gathers statistics and researches the education field, states that "31% of students seeking a BA/BS degree at a public college drop out by the end of their second semester
Students should be required to get a diploma or a GED because of better job opportunities, go to college, and have a job that has higher wages. So, students that are still in high school it would be best if you stayed in school and get your high school
Human brains have been trained to listen to famous people. When in reality there is an intense need for the independent mind. There are a great amount of ways to influence voters, whether is be political parties, by peers, or influenced by the technological advances in this world. Majority of our leaders votes are of people influenced by Radio, Television, and Internet.
The American High-School system has flaws, the major one being that critical awareness is not heavily emphasized. The curriculum tends to focus on simply passing and moving onto the next course. The end goal of high-school is to move onto college. The end goal of college is to get a job. With the modern and technological 21st century, the careers are no longer focusing on someone who can pass a test and move on, they want someone who can think with this sort of critical awareness because the modern century demands it.
As young adults start their high school years, students do not think about what that means in the real world. In real life, we have to work, manage our money, and think about careers. For a lot of high school students, may I dare say most, they do not have a clue about what it means or what to expect as an adult. The high schools should be offering more real world classes as electives or extra classes that can be taken. High schools should offer classes on how to apply for a job and how to file taxes. High schools should also offer more opportunities for students to leave school with more real world experience. Today students are only pushed through the system. Students are not given enough information and enough opportunities upon entering and throughout high school. We need to produce more productive members of society.
In his essay “The Human fee of an Illiterate Society,” Jonathan Kozol addresses the challenges that people who 're functionally illiterate face on an everyday basis, and posits the argument that society at significant suffers from this concern as good. For illustration, Kozol mentions the fact that many of these people vote blindly or do not vote at all in elections, concluding that their uninformed votes could have influenced the elected officials who took place of business. He offers sobering facts, corresponding to the truth that 60 million men and women that were functionally illiterate in 1980, and provides first-hand quotes from a few of those affected. His article
Receiving a high school and college education is a great privilege to a lot of people in the United States. For many Americans, attending college can be a great hurdle to surpass in comparison to attending high school. This is because college is more academically rigorous and costly than high school. However, despite college being a great way to advance academically and professionally, it is understandable why many people choose not to continue their education after graduating from high school.
Some say "ignorance is bliss," but in the case of democracy, this can be problematic. Public opinion is vital in sustaining democracy. Unfortunately, from recent polls, it is clear that Americans do not know very much about politics in general, so voters cannot make good decisions without having interests in or knowledge of politics; however, the media can help voters make better decisions, provided that voters look at media sources objectively, because it allows for a wide variety of ways for people to get their information.
With the last eight years of Barack Obama’s presidency, the percentage of eligible voters that actually vote in the U.S. General and Primary elections has been steadily declining at an unprecedented rate that hasn’t been seen in decades. Various socioeconomic factors come to affect these percentages like age, race and gender. The lack of political efficacy also has a noticeable effect in the electorate, caused by opposition towards the democratic and republican party but, there are many ways we can increase the public's interests in politics and voting.
A abundant amount of high school students in the world don’t completely remember what they’re taught or how it’s being taught to them before they leave for college or begin their career. One of the reasons why students don’t understand is because they think they’ll obtain humiliation for not being strong or as intelligent in that class. Multiple students misconstrue in school because of embarrassment. Another reason why students might not get the education they need is due to the families financial status in their country. Not all countries are as rich as the U.S., so it makes it not as affordable for them to even have one school. Students not getting an education can be caused by them misunderstanding what they’re being taught. The way that the teacher explains it might not be enough for the students to understand what they’re being taught.
All that can really be seen is what appears before ourselves. What we see on billboards, television, or radio show constantly the views of a new runner for politics whom proclaims what he or she wishes to accomplish. Listening to it, one can create a thought of why did they choose that topic for an argument? Today not all people vote so the ones who do are the people these “runners” focus on. Why would they fight to create increased pay to schools if all the voters are the elderly? Why not focus upon retirement benefits or healthcare? As citizens we have complaints on how the government manages our money and yet we do not do anything about it. Voting gives a chance. If certain groups grew in votes different ideas would be made for these “runners”. Say the young adults started to vote a lot more. We could have schooling benefits, less tuition fees, higher education levels, and possibly a large increase in jobs. One United Kingdom publisher explains, “If you vote, the campaigners urge, the politicians will have to listen to you and things will change.”(Kirkup, The Telegraph). Also youth have the longest time, and live what the country becomes. To conclude, voting doesn’t take long and doesn’t require almost any effort. All it requires just an open mind and yet people just do not realize this opportunity. Right now we could be living in the richest most opportunistic country if everyone could understand what can become of our views. Life could be looked forward not
Many people of today’s world may not seem to understand the importance of education and how we can go a long way with being educated young people. The dropout rate among individuals has probably been at its highest then it has ever been over the past couple of years. THE ACTUAL DATA IS EASY TO FIND, SO THIS SCREAMS “LAZY WRITER!” IT ALSO GETS US RIGHT INTO THE TOPIC TOO QUICKLY. In today’s society education plays a key role in the foundation of developing individuals by proving social success. Education enables the primary skills and ability that we can apply to regular bases in the market such as networking. With the current education system, kids are given many opportunities with the proper schooling to SUCCEED in order to further their education. All in all at the very moment the general public as a whole is failing, the rate of people processing to finish school or graduate is dropping at an uncontrollable percentage. AGAIN, EASY ENOUGH TO FIND. Clearly individuals who deal with family issues, insufficient preparation, work/life balance have a great chance of not wanting to
