Name: Sathvick Talanki Literary Analysis "We all kind of marvel at how fast this [CRISPR] took off as a technology.” This was a quote by Doudna, a biochemist. Year by year, technology advances just like CRISPR and new automatons are being invented. They may have many advantages and make our life easier, but most of them cause ethical dilemmas. CRISPR became a highly debatable subject just after it was online. New automatons caused a great amount of controversy on whether it’s helpful or harmful. This is often a noticeable theme in dystopian society books such as the book, Fahrenheit 451 and the movie, The Island. Although “Fahrenheit 451” and “The Island” have different types of main characters, they both have a similar warning and plot. Firstly, the main character of Fahrenheit 451 is Guy Montag while Lincoln Six-Echo is the main character of The Island. Guy Montag isn’t very smart because he has become a part of the controlled society and needs someone to tell him that he isn’t happy and the society is limiting his thoughts. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag says, “We have everything we need to be happy, but we aren't happy. Something's missing... I need you [Faber] to teach me”. Lincoln Six-Echo says, “Who here decided that everyone likes tofu in the first place...I just - I wanna know answers...Help us!” At first, both the main characters come to a realization that they’re missing something in their lives. After that, they both, with the help of another person, try to spread the truth to everyone without any fear of breaking the rules. At the end, they both have a resolution where the main character escapes the destruction of the corrupted society and lives to continue making the world a better
