Literacy Narrative
My earliest memory of being introduced to literacy is the time before elementary school, when my grandparents were reading me bedtime stories and books like Pinocchio and The Three Little Pigs. After that, I started going to school so reading and writing became part of my everyday life, and they still are. I cannot say that I am a big fan of writing and reading, like some people are. I only write when I have to, and my writing is always connected to school, however, I do not feel the same way about reading. In my free time, I like to read. I choose books which are easy going to read, books which are based on a movie or books that my friends told me to read. For homework, usually we had to write short paragraphs or essays on easy topics, which prepared us for the harder and more challenging literacy tasks in high school. When I got in high school, we started reading books like Hamlet and Crime and Punishment, which are far more complicated to understand than the books I read in the past. Now I am in college, and even though I have written a lot of essays, and I have read a lot of books, I am still improving and learning new things about reading and writing. I have the same problem with reading. If I like the book I enjoy reading it and I am able to finish it in a shorter time period. For example, it would be a lot easier for me to write an essay on The Hard Hat, because I can relate to this book and write about the lessons I learned from it. Another example is Iliad, the book I had to read in high school for my English class. Iliad tells us the story of the few weeks in the final year of the Trojan War. It is a great book about the suffering and loss of war, about family, friendship and love. I have always loved to read about Greek mythology, I love their myths and the great Greek poems like Homer and Aristotle. Therefore, I believe that is a lot easier for me to write on a topic I find interesting and challenging. This way, I am able to better understand the given assignment and go in depth with it. In addition, I can say that my life and all of the previous experiences I have had, every English course I have taken, every essay I have written has made me become the writer and reader I am today. I have developed a personal way of writing, I am able to think more deeply than before and make conclusions which are based on my personal opinions and point of
