What would you do if one day, you were having regular conversations with your child and the next day, they are gone without a trace? In Linwood Barclay’s book Fear the Worst this happens to Tim Blake when his daughter, Sydney Blake disappears. As Tim retraces her steps, he discovers that the suburban Connecticut town he thought was ideal, is anything but and that leaves him to only fear the worst. The title of this book can tell a story based on Tim’s effort and feelings in the situation, correlations between his actions and a real parents reactions, and why the author would choose this title above all others. A statistic from Quora.com shows that, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (citing U.S. Department of Justice reports), nearly 800,000 children are reported missing each year. That's more than 2,000 a day. That means that a plethora of parents go through what tim is going through. For example, there is a woman named Dawn Drexel who cautiously holds onto hope for her daughter's return says to abc news, "I will never stop looking for my daughter," said Drexel. "So many children go missing each day. This is part of my life now. I am not going to quit." Parents of missing children say that the pain is excruciating, and psychologists confirm that the loss can be more detrimental than when a child dies. Deciding when to give up the search is different for each. Using all of the information that I have acquired I can see why the author choose this title above all others. Fear the worst is a perfect embodiment of what most parents might feel in this situation. Just think; one day your child never comes home and weeks pass, but still no one can help you. You would be forced to fear that the worst has happened. Fortunately, Through Tim’s perseverance and love for his daughter, Sydney was found because a person who chooses not to be controlled by their fears must face
