Thesis: the two stories have many similarities but also they both are modernised in their own fashion percy jackson takes a newer spin on things and puts it into the view of a boy from america who doesn't know what he is while within the story of perseus he is being guided by god's all of his life and this just causes him to be better when he goes on his quest to kill medusa and save his mother from the man who had planned on taking her as his own.
Both of the stories tell how percy was on a hunt to kill medusa but percy jackson and the lightning thief makes the story more by making it about a hunt to get his mother back and to do that he must kill medusa and get through three other challenges but then his friend cant get back out of the
...his adventures. Both of them give Perseus something to help him in his adventure; from Athena the shield and from Hermes, the sandals and sickle. The god Dionysus ends up being the one to kill Perseus.
The lightning thief is the first book in the series. Percy Jackson was a twelve-year-old boy but not just any young boy; he was a demigod. In other words he’s half human and half god. In the beginning Percy didn’t know he was a demigod until an incident happen with his so called “algebra teacher”, Mrs.Dodds Percy turned her into dust with a pen,( a sword in disguise as a pen i should say) He told his best friend at the camp Grover right after it happened but he acting like he had know idea what Percy was talking about. Grover claimed that there was never a Mrs.Dodds. Percy also asked his favorite teacher Mr.Brunner; he also said there was never a Mrs.Dodds working at the school, Ever!
Being able to compare such characters can lie in the fact that they were both a castaway at some point in their glorious lives and both were saved by a love that appeared as a result of such disdain. Contrasting them, on the other hand, is explained by a godly versus humanly intervention. For Pericles, there were no Gods that banished him or saved him. For Odysseus, however, in both situations it was an involvement of the Gods. This dissimilarity between the two characters can help ex plain why some readers, in my opinion, will fell that Pericles is more relatable than
The story Persepolis uses the medium of graphic novel and the perspective of a child to convey her message. The events of Persepolis are very dark and in some
Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief is about a young boy (around the age of twelve) who finds out that he is the son of the greek god Poseidon. Percy (short for Perseus) faces troubling situations that the reader can relate to and gain a deeper connection to the book. “How old was I?” I asked. “I mean. . .
In the poem Perseus the character is Medusa's victims. That is the only one that is different from the other story. The setting isn’t as different as the other story but it is the only setting it is Medusa's cave. The events are that Perseus sees Medusa's victims then Perseus wanted to kill or destroy Medusa. Finally, the conflict of the story is that Perseus has a thirst to kill, its a problem because he wants to kill innocent people.
Overall, Riordan uses different mythological characters, to create a modern adaptation of the story of Perseus. Riordan does so in a way that a younger audience can understand and even relate to in this day and age. The main point Riordan is trying to get across, is this idea of heroism, and using children’s imaginations to make this happen. However, he doesn’t only use Percy to be portrayed as the hero, he also uses Grover, and also Annabeth, who both help Percy along his quest.
The similarities between Odysseus and Jason are as vast as their differences, yet their main connections show their their main difference. The similarity of the two previously unsung heroic types is exactly what separates them, each man is a different type of the new hero that came about after the brutish and brawny warriors like Achilles and Hector. Each can be seen as a hero or as a perverse designation of the past warriors and heroic ideals. It is their journeys that define them as heros, Jason though he could not have made it alone succeeds in his endeavors and Odysseus although he made it home alone in the end he is the valiant lover and father. The endings show a major difference between the two characters as Odysseus is redeemed in the end for his good qualities, Jason become less of a heroic figure as he discards his ever helpful wife Medea.
The main characters of each work are automatically associated with each other by their names, but they also share similar personalities and characteristics. Odysseus is a wily hero of the Trojan War who uses his deceptive...
My original thought when comparing Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Lightning Thief the movie and Classical mythology was that there would be many more references to the myth of Perceus than any other myth throughout the movie in its entirety. That’s where I was wrong. After watching the movie again and researching the different hero myths my opinion has changed. My new thoughts are that the movie is not influenced by the myth of Perceus any more than other hero myths. The movie ties together many different heroes’ stories and mixes them together to make a wonderful story about a young boy. The movie was based on a book series written by Rick Riordan.
...arity as the former parallels the latter in several aspects. Laura and Persephone are essentially the same person, with their resemblances being present in their close relationships with their mothers and their desires to break free from confinement. The setting in both stories is embellished as too perfect, almost unreal, which is evidence that a dreadful event will occur later on. In The Myth of Persephone, a young girl discovers her calling and transforms into a stunning, admirable Goddess, while in The Garden Party, Laura transitions into adulthood, both by witnessing death. Over time, stories have developed a connection to each other – they are all inspired by the story of humanity. If one author was able to interpret and borrow so many aspects from one myth to enrich the reader’s experience, the list of other writers that have taken the same path is endless.
First off, Perseus is a great hero throughout greek mythology. He slayed the mighty Medusa. But some may say since Perseus only killed Medusa, while heroes such
In the movie, Clash of Titans, and the book Medusa's Head there are couple of similarities and differences. In the written story, Perseus is given flying sandals, but in the movie is given Pegasus. In the movie, he is also given an owl that helps him but also causes some trouble. Another difference is that Acrisios dies in the beginning of the movie and in the book Acrisios is killed by Perseus at the end. Some of the similarities are characters, such as, Andromeda, Zeus, Medusa and of course
In the movie, Perseus, the mortal son of Zeus, fights the monsters of the underworld to stop them from taking over the heavens and earth. The story according to the Greeks, Perseus, the mortal son of Zeus, goes on an adventure to recieve the head of Medusa to save his mom from marrying King Polydectes and along the way falls in love Princess Andromeda. Between the two stories there are similarities and differences in each version.
