“Abused and scorned though we be, our destiny is tied up with America’s destiny.” King is a very powerful writer. Part of the reason is because he goes through a set layout in his writing. In one paragraph of his letter, “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”, he addresses one or more points that he wishes to bring to someone’s attention, and then later in the paragraph or in the next paragraph he talks about those points. Another reason is because he uses powerful writing, “But they have acted in the faith that right defeated is stinger than evil triumphant.” I also noticed that throughout King’s writing he is very clear and his point comes across very clearly. There is a sentence in his letter that is long enough to be its own paragraph and never for one moment was his point lost on me. King is a very competent and precise writer, and I admire him for it. If the paragraph were removed completely the preceding paragraphs would not make sense. This is an example of another thing that King does in his writing; he gives his readers all of the information that they need to understand what it is that he is going to talk about next. For example, the last paragraph that King writes before he begins concluding his letter is about the courage and preparedness the Negroes showed throughout the entire ordeal they went through when the police arrested them. In the beginning of the letter, King says that the movement went through workshops revolving around a self-purification process. He says that they asked themselves “Are you able to accept blows without retaliating?” “Are you able to endure the ordeal of jail?” I believe that this is the preparedness that King is talking about, the preparedness that King wishes the Negroes were commended
