Firstly legislation is a law or a group of acts designed to fulfil various uses such as enforcing the law, to control processes, permit and to constrict some activities so that everything goes along more smoothly and to put in place a higher of level of accountability.
The piece of legislation that is responsible for enforcing and regulating the production of hazardous waste, its type of management and disposal methods is known as The Hazardous Waste (England and Wales)Regulations 2005. According to The Hazardous Waste (England and Wales)Regulations 2005 part 1 of the legislation it states in article 4 of the waste directive is that the waste must be disposed of in a way that doesn’t harm human health or resorting to ways which would degrade the environment such as the surrounding surface such as soil, the natural flora in the area and the local fauna of the surrounding environment.
Furthermore within the Hazardous Waste (England and Wales)Regulations 2005 part 2 it defines waste as hazardous waste if it is “listed as a hazardous waste in the List of Wastes” the Hazardous Waste (England and Wales)Regulations 2005. So for example any hazardous waste which is produced in SEC laboratories would be listed in the” List of Wastes” the Hazardous Waste (England and Wales)Regulations 2005.
In this legislation is also states the duties in which the premises that produces the hazardous waste must perform, for example “the duty of a hazardous waste producer to notify the relevant premises in accordance with regulations 24 and 26 if they have not otherwise already been notified” Hazardous Waste (England and Wales)Regulations 2005 part 5. In this case SEC laboratories would be obligated to inform the relevant premises whenever hazardous wast...

Legislation, regulations and policies are there maintain a standard of safety when performing acts such as the disposal of hazardous to prevent harm on human health, the surrounding environment like local flora and fauna, and equipment. The legislation above which is created by the government is in existence to help maintain a good environment especially working environments within universities. The policy made by the universities is created in compliance with the legislation for all students and staff to adhere to.
