Due to the serious consequences of the drug problem and its related crimes in the United States, law enforcement identified six goals to handle cases of such nature. The first goal is to reduce the gang violence associated with drug trafficking and prevent the emergence of powerful organized criminal groups. Organized group are the main distribution of drugs in the community. They sell drugs for many reasons. It’s fast money, help fund other criminal activities and difficult for law enforcement to build a case against them for it. The drugs problem brings other crimes into the community. With drugs comes violence, drug wars and death. It is the main cause of the degradation of the community. Therefore, confronting the root of the problem by disrupting organized groups’ drug operation and its associated operations is beneficial to controlling the drug problem in Untied States. As mention before, the distribution of drugs in the area comes with other drug-related crimes. Drug users tend to commit crimes while on drugs. Therefore, by controlling the crimes they commit, the community can improve its functionality and appearance. This is the perfect example of the broken window theory. In order to significantly reduce serious crimes, law enforcement must address physical (vacant building and abandoned vehicles) and social (prostitution and drug dealing) disorders within the community. The third goal is to improve the health and economic and social well-being of drug users. Law enforcement must turn their attention to the people buying the drugs. To stop drug users from using drugs is for them to seek help through rehab or other social agencies.
