Kauikeaouli was born on August 11, 1813 on the Big Island of Hawaii. He became king at age 11 when his older brother Liholiho died, who ruled as Kamehameha II. For 14 years of his reign Kauikeaouli was guided by Kaahumanu and Kinau. At age 25, he took on the responsibilities of kingship by himself as Kamehameha III. (The Reign of Kamehameha III Website) Kauikeaouli’s reign of thirty years was filled with change and accomplishment. Kamehameha III’s reign would be a desirable time to live in because of the small population, religious freedom, and the equality for all Hawaiians.
Nevertheless, until he ultimately arrives on Ithaca, Odysseus displays some fairly reckless overall leadership. His actions, words and deeds endanger both himself and his crew. He angers the gods, burns bridges with people throughout his journey, and is responsible for the deaths of a lot of his men. But back home on Ithaca, he shows that he is a worthy and invaluable leader as king. Administratively and tactically, Odysseus is an extremely flawed leader, but he possesses other sometimes intangible leadership abilities that make him stand out as a decent overall leader.

A little over three years after the expedition began, it finally ended in ST. Louis. Most people think that Sacagawea was the ONLY guide for the expedition but that’s not true. Even though she was the most helpful, Toussaint and about 24 others came along. People learn about her in school and think she was a heroic guide, which she was, but really, her life was hard and sad (Sacagawea:childhood).
Stevens held firm beliefs about the future of Hawaii in the hands of the United States. From the start of his stay in Hawaii, Stevens made it clear whose side he was on in the political war. He would openly criticize Hawaii’s monarchy, and at times would refer to Queen Liliuokalani and her advisors as “incompetent”(2). Stevens may have not held anything against the Queen herself or any of her cabinet members, but rather degraded them simply to achieve his goals of the annexation of Hawaii, something that he considered “the only effective remedy for Hawaii’s troubles.” (2) Queen Liliuokalani naturally spoke out against the degradation of herself and her cabinet, and on behalf of her position of defending the Hawaiian Monarchy. “The U.S. Minister John Stevens was influenced by the annexationists. As a diplomat, his role was to foster a friendly, trusting relationship with the Hawaiian government. Instead, he often criticized the monarchy in public. I complained to the U.S. government about Stevens’ attitude and conduct but no action was taken.” (1)

Since Davis knew more about the foreigners than Kamehameha, he taught him how to deal with all the trouble they brought. Kamehameha did not know how to deal with all the trouble the foreigners brought and Davis prepared him for everything they would bring. Davis solved many ordeals with the foreigners and Hawaiians. Davis also helped Kamehameha win lots of battles by teaching him different strategies they used in western combat. Davis was in return taught many things about the Hawaiian culture and abided by the rules everyday he was on Hawaii. Odysseus, has defining characteristics traits of a “Homeric leader” developing power, bravery, dignity, a thirst for honor, and confidence in his authority. He is also so extremely intelligent. Odysseus's quick thinking helps him out of some very tough situations. Likewise, Oedipus is a man of swift action and great insight and therefore he was eventually crowned King. In the play Oedipus the King by Sophocles, he showed that having flaws does not mean a person is a bad leader, it just means they are human and will make mistakes. In the movie we appreciated that he developed his leadership throughout the years. At the beginning he was not such a good leader, he was very intelligent but he did not possessed clear leadership attributes. He was able to mobilize people through charisma and his leadership developed and changed with experience. He was not good at handling men. An example of this situation could be when he was in the train; he demonstrated that he was not yet prepared to deal with the injustices of people towards him, when they asked him to move to second class.
