When I was studied math 180 in El Camino College, my country, South Korea, suffered a big disaster. According to the The New York Times, the article “Sinking Ferry,” states that “The ferry, identified as the Sewol, was carrying about 470 passengers, including the students and teachers, en route to Jeju island, about 100 km (60 miles) south of the Korean peninsula.” On April 16, 2014 the ferry, Sewol was carrying 325 high school students, 14 instructors, 104 citizens, 33 crew members and the captain. The ferry was capsized by a deadlock because of the captain’s mistake. The captain made a false start. He took a wrong course. His carelessness invited the disaster. The ferry started to sink. People panicked. However, they did not have enough life jackets. In addition, all the life jackets that they had were worn out because of poor equipment aboard the Sewol ferry. There was a ten year old young girl among them. She had lost her and was looking for her parents. One of the biggest aims in Junhyuk’s life was that he wanted to help people. As his father mentioned, Junhyuk thinks people always have to make every effort to accomplish what they want. That is related to their volunteer spirit. Otherwise, the person who did not help people would not be approved at any society, even family. So Junhyuk made a concession. He gave his life jacket to her and helped the little girl on with the jacket. Then, they heard a loudspeaker coming from helicopter outside. The rescue party was standing by for a chance to help outside the ferry. The ferry was very steep. So it was hard to escape the aisle. The door to the roof almost closed. It was a life threatening circumstance, but without mental affliction, Junhyuk and his friends lifted the girl up over their heads and passed her to the rescue party.
