Jonathan Swift, in regards to the unclothe amount of poor and needy children crowding the streets of Ireland, has proposed a mathematical and systematic solution that would not only bring about the end of hunger and suffering these children face but also act as a financial boon to the country itself. His proposition is to euthanize and prepare most of these children as delicacies at the age of one, once the mother ends lactating, and to utilize the rest of these children as breeders for future products. Swift’s framework shows how the country’s pocketbook will benefit from this plan of action as well as individuals, even if their lives are much shorter lived. A plan of action to encourage growth and development, both economically and personably within Ireland, could be necessary. If Swift’s numbers are correct after nearly three-hundred years, then there is a large problem in the country that needs to be addressed with regards to the poor and the young. Slaughtering and eating the suffering youth, however, is not a viable option. It does not count as a mercy killing if it is done so wide-scale and with the idea of perpetuating it into the future. Turning children into livestock for the rich to dine on is not only inhumane, it also acts as a disabler to the already fragile economy. Most, if not all, countries that would trade with Ireland would probably boycott the floundering country if this plan was put into action. It would also cut down the potential working class of Ireland for each generation and in turn their military might, as any body ready for potential combat had been eaten. Without a strong military and a wide working class I can only see Ireland falling into chaos as the aging upper class feast upon the remnants of their crumbling society they so
