Jonathan Iwegbu is bright and cheerful, despite that he just came from war and lost his son. Jonathan is happy to be alive. He is also very constructive and hopeful approaching to life. Which in the first paragraph he “counted himself extra-ordinarily luck.” “Happy survival!” and “how happy he is for his life.” He was blessed to come home after the war and still have “his head, his wife Maria’s head, and the heads of three out of four children.” He is very excited that he can enjoy spending time with the people that are alive and not have to be sad for the people that don’t make it out of the war. As this definition shows compassion shows concern for other that every person would love to have. In The Chosen written by Chaim Potok, Mr. Potok really presents compassion in his book. Not only does he display compassion in one of his character but in every single one he gives them compassion that is expressed in different ways. He goes into detail example of compassion with each of his characters and really emphasizes the true meaning of compassion. Three main character that he shows compassion through in different ways are, Reuven, Mr. Malter and Reb Sanders.

A boy named Johnny who saves kids in a burning church and saves them but he is in very bad condition in the hospital. Johnny has had a very rough life ever since he was born. Almost every day they would hit him and beat him but that did not stop him from doing anything. Johnny has brown hair and he is part of the Greasers. He usually wears a jean jacket or some type of jacket with his hair greased back. Johnny is brave, afraid, and compassionate those are some traits. Those are some things that describe him. I chose this character because he was one of the main characters and I liked how he always was nice and stood up for others.

This will be the eightieth white baby she has taken care of in her lifetime. Aibileen Clark is a black woman who has been working and cleaning for white folks and caring for their babies since she was young, along with the other negro women in their town. Her best friend, Minny Jackson starts out working for one of the meanest white women in Jackson, Mrs. Hilly. The Help exhibits life in the 1960’s around the Civil Rights Movement in the town of Jackson, Mississippi. You’ll see the callous treatment that negro maids had to go through every single day working for white families, dealing with racism, family, and inequalities.
Jonathan came out of the war with five miracles, but he should have came out with six. He managed to save his head, his wife’s head, and only three out of four of his children. Losing a child would be considered unlucky, but the fact that he only lost one person out of six is very lucky. Most wouldn’t make it out of a war against another country, better yet a civil war, without losing everything. In a civil war you have nowhere to go, hide, or protect yourself. Everyone is in danger but Jonathan managed.
A character that was admirable in the novel “we all fall down” is John. John is the father of Will who is the main character, they spend nearly the entire story together looking for a way out of the world trade center during the 9/11 attacks. During the story you learn that John is very smart, brave, and respected. These are all characteristics which play a crucial role in saving lives such as his co-workers and a random lady they find on the way named ting, but mainly in the ending John and Will successfully escape.
The soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War had a very shocking experience. In Tim O’Brien’s fictional novel The Things They Carried, he discusses about his own experience and the experiences of other American soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War. O’Brien, the author of this novel plays a significant role of both the character and author. Every person goes through phases that change their personality. James McBride has gone through many transformations throughout his life. The people in his life and the environment he lived in had a lot to do with his transformation of a person. He started off a curious, worried, confused child to a rebellious, high school drop-out, bum teenager. Luckily he got control of his life again and became a successful, accepting, proud adult.
In the story, Young Goodman Brown, the character, Goodman Brown changes throughout the story. In the beginning he was a kind man, loving husband with nothing holding him down, not even the warnings of his wife, Faith. As he walked and talked with the Devil, he became more aware of what had happened in the past with his own family. When he saw the Devil talk with Goody Cloyse on the path in the woods, he figured out by the nature of their conversation that the Devil was more mischievous than he thought. He started to have uncertainties about the errand he was on. At that point, Goodman Brown told the devil he was not going another step. As a main character, Marcus Yallow is many things. He is brave, courageous, and concerned for the well-being of others. He rises up into a position that could cause harm to himself, and does the best that he can with what he has to lead hundreds, if not thousands of people, in a rebellion against the government. Marcus guides people through one of the toughest things that a person could go through. Marcus Yallow is a role model for many people.
