It is understandable that not everyone is perfect. We all have our flaws, our imperfections, things that make us who we do want to be, and who we don’t want to be. How can one judge another correctly, if they cannot admit their own flaws? John Proctor, a man with a respected name, a farm and a family, may look to have the perfect life, but he too has as many flaws as anyone else. One might be appalled at the fact that he has committed adultery with Abigail Williams. How could he? He has betrayed his family, is unable to recite the one commandment in which he has broken, and confessed to being in league with the devil. How could he?

We have jumped over obstacles, sidestepped temptation, and overcome fear. Nonetheless, these tests are not always passed as flawlessly as expected. Tested with adultery was the first path that Proctor had to cross. Now, he is accused of being in league with the devil. Funny thing, accusations. The young girls of Salem have tricked us all with their own accusations. They have feigned being victims of witchcraft, if only so they are not accused themselves. It is as visible to the eye as seeing a witch herself, dressed up with a black hat and a brewing pot. If you will not accuse them, then you shall not accuse John Proctor of something of the same dealing. But if you cannot overlook these facts set before you, see that this man confessed to being in league with the devil to save himself, in hopes that this confession will help him to be free and a better man. He believes he deserves jail, from all that he has done, all of the sins he committed. It also gives him solace knowing that Elizabeth is safe now that she is expecting. John will go to jail, if it means that his wife and baby are safe from being hanged for a year. Before you stands a good man, who wants to protect his family and his good
