What would you do if someone told you that getting a maid for your home could lead to your death? You may think that person was being insidious. However, in Arthur Miller’s well-known play, The Crucible, this is precisely what occurred. Taking place in the town of Salem, Massachusetts, the play is set during the 1600s. John Proctor, a main character in the play, found himself in the situation mentioned previously. He was once a man who was even-tempered and not easily led. Soon after his affair with their house’s servant which adulterated his marriage, we see his character undergo changes that lead to his demise. John Proctor's flaws of his short temper, pride, and lack of self control led to the ultimate downfall of his death.
