A well known journalist “John O’Sullivan” was the first one to use the term manifest destiny. The phrase manifest destiny was first used in an issue of the democratic review. Manifest Destiny was basically saying that the U.S had the right to take what they want. The U.S wanted the land out west. This is what started the westward expansion. John L. O’Sullivan was the first one to use the term Manifest Destiny. The phrase or saying Manifest Destiny was first used in the year 1845. He used the words Manifest Destiny in a magazine as well as the democratic review. Back then the democratic review was like a magazine or newspaper, e.t.c. “The word Manifest means clear or obvious. This land or territory started from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. The land also stretched from Canada to New Orleans. This is approximately double the size of the United States.
