There have been several tragic heroes throughout history, that left a lasting impact on the lives of many individuals. Some of these figures stand out more than others, a few that comes to mind are John F. Kennedy, who because of his great leadership qualities was able to lead a renewed drive for public service and eventually provided federal support for the growing civil rights movement, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, whose tactics of peaceful protest helped improve the lives of African American citizens in the United States, and who pushed for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965 to be passed, or Nelson Mandela, who fought against Apartheid in South Africa. However, one particular individual that I think is the best tragic hero is one of America’s first, Abraham Lincoln. I strongly believe that a man of such wisdom, commitment, and dedication deserves a monument in every state in the United States. This monument will show every person that comes or drives through a particular state why the sixteenth president of the United States is so important and his accomplishments while in office. Lincoln was able to overcome a myriad amount of obstacles that people only dream of doing. Many heroes do not go through a phase of struggling or having to worry about how one might get through tomorrow. Lincoln was on the opposite end of the spectrum, he had to overcome several hardships in order to be successful. However, despite these hardships, Lincoln was able to change the world and make it a better place that he dreamed of it being, a place of peace and happiness.
