The film I chose to write about was “Jesus of Montreal”. It is a French movie about a group of actors who perform a Passion Play in Canada. With the combination of drama and comedy, it was a delight to watch. More insight into the film, it is basically about these actors who performs a passion play but the twist being that they combined religious beliefs with not so conventional theories on Jesus. Focusing on the plot in a deeper fashion, we basically have the main character whose name is Daniel. Daniel casts people for his about Jesus. Once the play has been performed, it draws great praise and reviews but not without controversy. But the people of the Roman Catholic Church object his biblical interoperation and continues to try and stop his performance. Daniel ends up injured and eventually dies as a result. His play and work however is carried on by his friends in a new theatre company. Daniel was an intriguing character in the film because he is talented and smart, but ends up identifying with the character of Jesus Christ. One of them being that the actors are called ‘disciples’ . A scene in particular that I would like to discuss is when it becomes apparent that Daniel’s actions and Jesus Christ’s life soon become similar. Also, at the end when Daniel is injured and h}e was laid down like it is own crucifixion al la Jesus Christ. Also, during that scene it is being decided if his organs should be donated, like helping other people. Something Jesus enjoyed doing. But that particular scene when he was practically dying just reminded me of how Jesus died. But instead of dying for his sins, Daniel died doing what he loved and that was acting and being a performer. It is a satire film after all and it just displayed
