In this sci-fi fiction book, The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, a young teen named Thomas. He is living in a future dystopian unknown area, where he and strangers are surrounded by walls. Behind those walls is a maze. The maze contains the only possible exit for Thomas and his crew. At first, Thomas wants to explore the maze, but there is one secret he does not know. Personally, I thought that this book was amazing with all of the detail and creativity the author had I really thought that this book was unique.
The author of this book, James Dashner, is an American sci-fi writer. He is currently 45 years old and is married to Lynette Anderson. Dashner was born in Austell, Georgia on November 26, 1972. He know lives and continues to write in the Rocky Mountains. Dashner was influenced by many books and movies like The Shining by Stephen King and Lord of the Flies. He said that the end of The Shining had a creepy scene where the main character is chasing his son through the garden maze. Thomas needs to use his friends to work together to escape the maze and its underlying creatures. Teamwork is one of the biggest factors and the creators of the maze are trying to have them all work together. “Like I said, they wanted to test us, see how we’d react to what they call the Variables, and to a problem that has no solution. See if we could work together-build a community, even. Everything was provided for us, and the problem was laid out as one of the most common puzzles known to a civilization-a maze.” This is the point were Thomas and the crew finally realize that they need to start to work together to beat this maze. This connects with the theme because with a team things can become so much easier. They also need each other to solve this maze
First, he looked at the drawn maps of the maze and it didn't take him long to figure out how to solve the maze and how to do it. “We need wax paper and scissors”(from chapter 15) is what Thomas said to his friends, as if he didn't want to loose this sudden train of thought . Another example of Thomas's unknown intellect was when he intentionally threw himself into a griever to go threw the changing to get some of his memorise to see if he would remember anything that would be helpful for him and his friends. The Glade represents the lack of freedom. The Glade was where the Gladers were forced to live. This symbol holds their childhood, since they were sent up to the Glade when they were very young and no one has found the exit. Either, they died while finding the exit, or they survived, but lived the Glader life for the rest of their life.
Now Thomas from The Maze Runner has to keep moving he doesn’t look back he has to keep on moving forward (or backwards, wherever the maze takes him). Besides Chuck (which was probably his best friend at the time) he left them for

The memory of a human being is a fascinating matter, but it is not something that stays with us forever. Memories will often change or multiply with unnecessary information, but they are what define you as you.
It was cold, dark, and he had no idea what was going on all he can remember partially of his name. He had started hearing conspicuous noises. He then looked at the sides of the chained wall. He saw this terrifying creature, then jolted back as soon as he saw it. Everything had just stopped and the top of the room opened up. This guy had then jumped down and brought him up and said, “Day one greenie.” As soon as he got up he started to run. But after 5-10 seconds he then fell. The guy who brought him up told him, “As long as you’re here you’ll never run again.”
Well it the span of his first week Thomas survives a night in the maze trying to save his peer, befriends the boy that came before him,(Chuck) and figures out he can telepathically communicate with the girl in the coma who does wake up. He experiences a night in the slammer for breaking the rules and going into the maze
Thomas and the other people (Gladers) in the society are trying to escape the maze
Meanwhile, Thomas learns more about the Glade. He learns that the Gladers have been trying to solve the Maze for two years and that the Grievers sting can cause you to recall memories from the past. The process is painstaking and is dreaded by other gladers. He feels oddly connected to the new girl and also befriends a young and enthusiastic (if slightly annoying) Glader named Chuck. He also befriends a boy called Newt. On the other hand, he strikes up a somewhat negative relationship with Gally, who thinks suspiciously of Thomas and claims that he has seen him, after he was stung by a Griever, in a process known as the Changing. Thomas also feels an inexplicable urge to be a Runner, the people who explore, map out, and try to find a way out of the Maze.
Doomsday. Armageddon. 2012. The end of the world or the apocalypse is known by its many names and has become an extremely viral subject for this generation. But, imagine living in a world not playfully joking around about the apocalypse, but strategically trying to survive it. This is the harsh reality for Thomas, a teenager living in a virus polluted and self-destructing planet. A deadly disease has broken out called “the flare” which causes the most sane and rational people to become raging and hysterical flesh eaters. Not only has the virus taken the lives of millions, but the extreme climates have also killed the few remaining. In the novels The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials, Thomas and his friends will have to fight to survive a world taken over by the sick and protect one other from those who say they want to help. The two novels share a touching story of young lives entwined during a difficult time and the lengths the characters go through in order to survive the apocalypse. The ultimate question within these novels is what is one willing to risk in order to survive? Within the novels The Death Cure and The Scorch Trials, Thomas is forced to fight for his survival on a daily basis, and in doing so he is constantly faced with either having to betray those closest to him, or remain the honest and true man he is, in order to survive. Within these novels, relationships are tested to such extremes that the repercussions of each survival based decision the characters make have the possibility of endangering the lives of those closest to them, but ultimately is a test to see who remains true to themselves and does not sell out their friends or themselves.
Hey you, Yeah… YOU! Would you want to live in a society where you live in a box for your entire life, and mean absolutely nothing to the just about anyone? For science right? NOPE! Obviously, Societies fall as a result of a corrupt government, Failing Social Structure, and Sickness. It is due to these factors that many great societies such as Greece, Rome, and the society depicted in the book Maze Runner fall.
In The Maze Runner, Thomas and a bunch of other guys from the glade are stuck in a giant maze with no way out. Thomas is the main character and this is how he follows the hero’s journey and becomes a hero. Reasons are Call to adventure, Ordeal, Death\, and rebirth, Crossing the threshold.
For instance, when the people of the Glade discover that Ben got stung by a Griever, they immediately bring him to the entrance of the maze with bad intentions: Ben cries, “Please don’t! Please don’t do this!” (Ball) The boys began to use long sticks to usher Ben into the maze while it closes, intending to trap him in there. Under those circumstances, Chuck looked very disappointed and so ashamed that he walked away from what was happening. This practice displayed the savagery that goes on inside the Glade and how Chuck doesn’t believe that what the boys did was morally right. Furthermore, upon Teresa’s arrival, came the antidote to “the changing” (Ball). When a Griever stung Alby, Thomas used this cure on him in hopes to save him from the infection. Had the Gladers not jump into such ruthless actions so quickly, Ben would still be alive. To emphasize, Chuck also paid a visit to Thomas in the pit: “It’s just me, you’ll run better on a full stomach.” (Ball) Chuck’s concern for Thomas’s well-being supports his innocence because nobody else cared to bring Thomas food. Chuck acts like a brother figure to Thomas and these bonds need to grow throughout the community. Most of the boys lost hope of getting out of the Maze and were working on surviving within the safe area of the Glade. Thomas taught me that while we can't really control where we start in life, we can definitely control where we end up as long as we don’t give up. Knowing he needed his memories to help him and the Gladers escape the Maze, Thomas had to choose to be stung by a Griever to go through the Changing. This decision allowed them to escape the Maze. The novel is about a sixteen year old boy named Thomas who wakes up with no memory from where he came from or who he is or what he was doing there and in a metal cage box surrounded by many teenage boys looking at him weirdly. Throughout the novel there is many science-fiction themes and characteristics displayed such as futuristic technology, alien, robot like creatures environmental and social changes also unrealistic and fictional events.
The novel The Maze Runner by James Dashner begins with a teenage boy waking up in an elevator who has no memory of the past, only that his name is Thomas. When the doors of the elevator open up he is pulled into a humongous square surrounding, called the Glade, by a group of teenage boys. The boys in the Glade refer to themselves as the ‘Gladers’. Thomas learns that the Gladers have lived in there for two years and that the Glade is located in the center of a maze which contains a labyrinth of high walls that move during the night and deadly creatures called grievers. The Glade is led by two boys, Alby and Newt; they both maintain order in the Glade by enforcing strict rules and jobs that keep the Gladers busy. A day after Thomas’ arrival an unknown girl arrives in the Glade. This shocks everyone because the Gladers only receive a new person every month, never within the same week. This also shocks everyone because she was the only girl in a maze full of boys. The girl also gives a message that everything is going to change and that she is the last one ever. Right after her message she immediately falls into a coma. The arrival of the girl causes many things to go chaotic including the sun seizing to rise, the Gladers stop receiving supplies from the creators of the maze, and the doors of the Glade that protect the Gladers from the grievers at night stop closing. When the girl, Teresa wakes up she informs Thomas that they both knew each other in the past and that the maze was a code. Thomas and the people who run around the maze to map out the labyrinth, the runners, look through the archives of the maps and find out the code. Then the leader of the runners, Minho, figures out that the cliff they thought was just a cliff was actua...
