James Corden, renowned for hosting ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’, is rising to media fame at a rapid pace. Such popularity is not a result of mere luck, though. According to the editors from “thefamouspeople” (2017), Corden is no stranger to the industry; having experience as an actor, comedian, singer and television host. Born on 22 August 1978 in Greater London, he attended school like any other regular individual, and later pursued drama at the Jackie Palmer Stage. ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’ is clearly globalising its content, and doing so is popularising and financially benefiting the studio (CBS) that operates the show. Specifically, having the show available almost everywhere clearly subjects it to further widespread attention and, with more watching, money growth would be exponential. Such processes would also expand the United States media culture, with diverse groups of people from dissimilar cultures being exposed to their values, while being able to empathise with their humour. Globalization, in this case, would most likely not have been possible without the impact of convergence. If the program was not accessible online, or if James Corden had no social media profiles, it would have been likely that only a minority knew of his show on a global scale. Furthermore, many critical media theorists believe that commercial media companies who have the platform to transmit information and images can implement propaganda and hence manipulate its audience (Flew, 2007). Although Corden’s platform is used as a talk show and would not typically communicate specific beliefs, it is certainly valid that a celebrities comment regarding a specific topic, or a monologue by Corden, could subconsciously promote a biased view. This, in effect, means that such a view could negatively influence populations of a wide scale. For instance, “Reuters” (n.d.) details that the CBS corporation is a mass media company who distributes information through Entertainment, Cable Networks, Publishing and Local Media. Therefore, it is plausible that a range of their programs could be edited to distribute implicit propaganda or beliefs for the benefit of their company or the government.
