Jacques Cousteau was a man of numerous works and various talents during his lifetime. In America he was well known for having several positions in his career. For example, he was a marine officer, oceanographer, scientist, conservationist, filmmaker, and an underwater explorer. However, in overseas countries, Cousteau was well-known for his documentary television show called the “Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau.” Lastly, but certainly not least, Cousteau is the Creator of countless diving and scuba devices such as the “Aqua-Lung.” Overall, Jacques was an intelligent man with various ideas to help other scientists answer the questions of the oceans that we have every day. FOC stands for “French Oceanographic Campaigns,” and is currently run by Cousteau’s daughter, Elizabeth Cousteau. Also, Cousteau had many books and short stories about his life. In 1953, Cousteau wrote a book named “The Silent World,” and it was soon transformed into a film. The film was awarded as the number one movie at the Cannes Film Festival. His hour long special television show “The World of Jacques-Yves Cousteau,” was released in 1966 and was an instant hit. Over the course of two years, he had created a TV show named “The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau,” and ran for nine seasons. The show had caught the attention of people all around the world and inspired people to explore the various wonders of the ocean. A few years later in 1973, Cousteau founded the Cousteau Society, which raised money for helping conduct research studies on the ocean. In conclusion, Jacques Cousteau was a man of multiple accomplishments and the world was extremely shocked when the world’s greatest oceanographer had died on June 25, 1997. Cousteau’s legacy will forever continue to inspire newer generations to explore the wonders of the ocean. They were used and developed during World War II due to government research. The main pesticides used were called DDT. She was concerned about the effects of the DDT may have on the environment as well as the people. This is when she began to write her book called “Silent Spring”. In the book, it describes how DDT entered the food chain and accumulated in the fatty issues of animals, including human beings, and caused cancer and genetic damage. She wrote that a single dose of the DDT on a crop killed insets for weeks and even months. Also, it remained toxic in the environment even after it was weakened by rainwater. Her main problem she had with the use of DDT and other pesticides was that it somehow permanently harmed birds/animals and contaminated the entire world food
