The book talks about a man named Jacob Burkhardt who created the whole concept. This was a time period of reformation. They refer to this time as "the birthplace of the modern world." One of the main changes that I read about was the social changes and the social structure they inherited. This talks about how things were divided into three estates. Something I found very interesting was that the book says, "The ideas of the Renaissance did not have a broad base among the masses of the people." It talks about how the progression in culture, art, and intellect were accomplished by and for the upper class. While the lower class were obviously aware and effected by the changes around them, it seems they didn't have much of a part in the changes
