The 14th, 15th and part of 16th century was a glorious time for Europe, it was the reformation of many old ideas and the formation of many new, this was called the Renaissance. The Renaissance brought many changes to Europe, the economy was greatly boosted by of all the new explorations. The flourishing economy helped to inspire new developments in art and literature. And from that many new beliefs were formed.
The European economy flourished during the Renaissance due to many factors. There was a large income coming in from over seas exploration. Spain alone received added income from Christopher Columbus and when he stumbled across North America on his way to find a shorter rout to the Indies. The exploration down the coast of Africa also brought in a lot of extra income. This income came from the exploitation of the Africans by kidnapping them and selling them as slaves. Income also came from establishing colonies in Africa and setting up gold mines and mines for other needed metals.
With all of this extra income coming into the European countries they had more money to help fund the arts. During the Renaissance there were many drastic changes in the style of art. The European Renaissance occurring from 1450 to 1650, marked a change that led to many developments in art, religion, literature and the economy. The impact of the Renaissance changed the thinking and life. The society saw a rise in creativity, in ambition and in politics. During the Renaissance (the rebirth) achievement in art especially rose, though depending on where the Renaissance was, it was a different experience all around. Renaissance art in Italy and southern Europe had more of a grecian theme, while northern Renaissance focused more on life and mythology.
The Renaissance began after Europe began recovering from the Black Death. Anyone who had survived was just happy to be alive and started focusing more on material things, rather than religious ones. Another reason the focus shifted from religious thoughts was because of the Great Schism. People began second guessing their rulers and religious leaders and became more secular. One important city involved in the Renaissance was Florence, which would come to be known as the cultural center of the Renaissance. Florence was located in Tuscany and was ruled by merchants originally, but was later taken over by a wealthy family known as the Medicis. Later, however, the economy began to decline, which made the people turn to a man known as Savonarola. Savonarola, however, was an extremely strict ruler and did not allow such things as gambling or painting. He then went on to criticize the Pope and was sentenced to death for heresy. The Medici family then gained back control. These power struggles within Italy would lead to better trade which would help lead to people having a new, better way of life.
...ble. His drinking increased and his decision making skills worsened. Poe would soon come to his own demise in the streets of Baltimore. Poe was found On October 3, 1849 in the streets very disoriented and in dire need of assistance(Poemhunter). He was taken to the Washington College Hospital, where he died on Sunday, October 7, 1849, at 5:00 in the morning(Poemhunter). Poe's reported last words were "Lord help my poor soul."
Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of actress Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe and actor David Poe, Jr. His father abandoned the family in 1810, and his mother died of tuberculosis when he was only two, so Poe was taken into the home of John Allan, a successful tobacco merchant in Richmond, Virginia. Although his middle name is often misspelled as "Allen," it is actually "Allan" after this family. After attending the Misses Duborg boarding school in London and Manor School in Stoke Newington, London, England, Poe moved back to Richmond, Virginia, with the Allans in 1820. Poe registered at the University of Virginia in 1826, but only stayed there for one year. He was estranged from his foster father at some point in this period over gambling debts Poe had acquired while trying to get more spending money, and so Poe enlisted in the United States Army as a private using the name Edgar A. Perry on May 26, 1827. That same year, he released his first book, Tamarlane and Other Poems. After serving for two years and attaining the rank of Sergeant-major, Poe was discharged. In 1829, Poe's foster mother Frances Allan died and he published his second book, Al Aaraf. As per his foster mother's deathwish, Poe reconciled with his foster father, who coordinated an appointment for him to the United States Military Academy at West Point. His time at West Point was ill-fated, however, as Poe supposedly deliberately disobeyed orders and was dismissed. After that, his foster father repudiated him until his death in March 27, 1834.
Edgar Allan Poe was a great poet back in the nineteenth century. Unfortunately, Poe only died in 1849 at the age of forty; there have been questions about what actually killed Poe. Many believe he was ill or drank himself to death due to his history of losing his mother, wife, debt, and never having a job for a long period of time.
The population of Europe itself was reborn during the Renaissance. I was surprised to learn that the population of Europe declined approximately 25 to 50 % during the time of the black plague in the 1300's. Apparently it wasn't until around 1500 that the population started to grow and recover to its previous size. The European economy also looks to have been reborn during the Renaissance, which was desperately needed after the economic upheaval of the fourteenth century. Trade recovered and expanded, along with old and new
The Renaissance was a cultural and intellectual movement that had its peak during the 15th and 16th centuries. During these times there was a heightened interest with the classical learning that was brought about in the middle ages. The renaissance first started in Italy and then eventually spread to Western Europe. During this period there was a high interest in the aesthetics of the classical world like architecture. The renaissance focused on the 17th century philosophy which came from the Greeks.
The Renaissance could be considered as an awakening for Europeans from the dark middle ages. Humanity took a remarkable leap forward during and after the Renaissance. People became more individual and confident in the new lifestyle that they lived. The renaissance shifted how people viewed their purpose and individuality in art, literature, astronomy, and anatomy.
Edgar Allan Poe died on Oct. 7,1849 in the Washington College Hospital, three days after being found wandering the streets of Baltimore, raving and incoherent. His final days and the what exactly cause of his death remain unknown, but it has been the subject of interminable speculation. Led by these speculations James McTeigue, recreates Edgar’s last days in the movie The Raven, making it as obscure as his tales.
Edgar Allen Poe, a famous author of the 19th century, has always been well-known for his dark and mysterious stories. Orphaned at a young age, Poe was adopted by the Allen family, who liked him at first; however they grew to resent him as he became an avid gambler, constantly asking for money. Throughout his life, Poe had trouble with alcohol and was frequently in need of money. It seems fitting; that Poe seemed to have died in a way that no one is quite sure what caused his death, since he was so famous for his mysterious stories. All we know for sure is that he was found in a semi-conscious state in a tavern, brought to a hospital where he experienced various symptoms, and died a few days after. The two most common theories are that he died
The European Renaissance was a period where art and literature flourished in Europe. The word renaissance means rebirth. A number of people believed they witnessed the rebirth of ancient Greek and Rome during this time. Sometimes the European Renaissance is referred to as the Italian Renaissance. The reason for this is because, the Renaissance began in Italy and then spread throughout Europe (Spielvogel). The European Renaissance was a major event in the development of romantic comedies.
Just a few days after his arrival in Baltimore, the illustrious Edgar Allan Poe was found extremely intoxicated near a gutter. On October 7, 1849, he was officially declared dead, yet the cause is still controversial. Some say he drank away his sorrows or died from medical issues, but after examining the facts it is clear the Cooping Theory fits the situation perfectly. Edgar Allan Poe, a famous poet from the 1800’s, was confirmed to have passed away just as the Cooping Theory stated.
There is a lot of controversy on how Poe died but no one knows because it is unknown how he die. No one is really going to know how Poe died because there are so many theories. Poe could have died from rabies, drinking, and a lot of other things but who knows.
The shift between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance was characterized by great socio-economic, political, and religious changes. Politically, the feudal system of the Middle Ages was exchanged for a more stable centralized republic/monarchy system that gave the people more freedom and input. Religiously, secularism became more important as stability gave people a chance to concern themselves with the “here and now” rather than simply the “hereafter.” Socially, there was a shift from dogma and unshakeable belief to humanism and the ability to interpret things for oneself. The Middle Ages began around 400 CE and lasted until 1400 CE while the Renaissance began around 1200 and continued until 1600. The 200 years that overlap between these two periods contain many pieces of “transition” art in which it is obvious that the change is beginning to take place. These collective changes that took place in this period dictated change in art as well. There were changes in iconography, style, purpose, and patronage that facilitated the overall transformation of art from a sense of illustrating what you are told to believe is true to optical realism and conveying how you yourself interpret that “truth”.
