Jacamars are in the order Piciformers, sub-order Galbuliformes, family Galibulidae and located in mostly South and Central America and will extend up to Mexico. This family contains five genera, and eighteen species. They mostly enjoy living in low-altitude woodlands and the canopy of the forest edge. These birds are small to medium sized and range from 5.5 to 13.4 inches in length and can weigh anywhere from 0.60-2.65 ounces (Wikipedia). These birds are described as glossy with long bills and tails, their plumage are normally bright and radiant colors though there are some that basic dull color as well.
