It can be argued that capitalism is the best form of economy that has implemented in society so far. It may not be perfect, but it has been successful in many countries and many cases throughout history. Since World War II, capitalism has been based on excess. If you had an excess amount of possessions or money, you were considered wealthy. This meant that corporations did anything in their power to make money. Businesses did not feel like they had any social duty. They did as they pleased, not caring who they hurt or what they damaged in the process. It was not until recently that people realized that irresponsible capitalism was causing irreversible damage, and that we needed to make a change. In order to produce goods, companies need to hire workers. Most of the time, due to cheaper labor, companies use workers from overseas. They use factories without researching what the conditions at those factories are. They do not care as long as they get their product made in the cheapest way possible. Most of the time at these factories, the workers are mistreated and sometimes they employ children. Also, many businesses did not care about the area surrounding their building. The business Save-On-Meats did something about this problem. They were located in an area Vancouver that had many people who were drug addicts and in other bad situations. Save-On-Meats allowed people to eat no matter how much money they had. The new owner started a token program which allows someone to pay for a meal and then receive a token. The customer can then give that token to any one, and they can come get a meal for free. Save-On-Meats is an example of a business that actually cares about their community. Another example of businesses caring about people is the Nurse Next Door company. They are a company that provides at home care for whoever needs it. One of their main customers provided a large amount of their revenue every year, but mistreated the employees and was very mean to them. The company made an ethical decision and decided that the happiness of their employees were more important than the money. They stopped seeing that client despite the financial loss they received. Companies like Save-On-meats and the Nurse Next Door are important because they show people the way a company should act. If more people realized that companies should be able to treat people like property, then a change would happen. All companies should care about their customers, employees, and the community around
