There are notable opportunities for investing in Brazil’s financial market, since Brazil is still one of the leading exporters of commodities in the world. Financial markets in Brazil are not stable since there are economic concerns and slow productivity rates which means smaller profitability of domestic companies.

Elements of Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment were in hot pursuit of a Special Forces A-Team of unknown origin at least that’s what they believed. They believed they had chased them into a box canyon with sheer cliffs on all sides that they couldn’t possibly climb to escape. Alpha’s Company Commander held back not wanting to enter the canyon immediately he was well aware that his men were prior to the event were part timers in the guard. His assumption that if this was a Special Forces A-Team it was their profession and a very dangerous group of men. He knew the make-up of an A-Team which primarily consisted of thirteen men and that would be against his two hundred-fifty man Company.
Although from a cursory analysis the consumer good industries in both nations seem similar, they are very different from an operational perspective. One of the keys to consumer good industry is the macroeconomic environment of the nation in which they compete. Until 2014, the Peruvian economy was one of the world’s fastest growing region economies, with an average 5.9 percent despite low inflation (World Bank). GDP growth continued to accelerate on the back of increases in mining projects.
In 1888, Horatio Hathaway started the Hathaway Manufacturing Company, which would later merge in the 1950s with Berkshire Fine Spinning. In 1963, Warren Buffet would become Chairman of the executive committee. Buffet began diversifying the holdings of the company. “In about 1967, Buffett turned the company’s eyes towards the insurance business, negotiating the purchase of two Nebraska companies, National Indemnity and National Fire and Marine Insurance” (Livy, 2013). This would be an important factor for Buffet, as he used the insurance companies cash or “floats” (profits earned that do not belong to the company, but are held on behalf of the customer) to invest for additional monies and profits (Goldstein, 2010).

The execution of our investment strategy occurred in three stages. First, we invested in t-bills and bonds according to our original set out investment plan. This was to decrease potential losses and risk associated with the declining equity market. Therefore, we invested about two hundred thousand of our funds into these low risk assets to maintain buying power. Due to inflation, we did not want to lose buying power by leaving funds in an account without earning interest. Further, we invested a small portion of funds into the commodity market. With a slumping equity market and a positive outlook on the gold commodity, we invested in Gold Corporation at the same time we invested in income assets.

Corporate governance is the set of guidelines that determines the control and organization of a particular company. The company’s board of directors is in charge of approving and reviewing changes to this set of formally established guidelines. Companies have to keep in mind the interests of multiple stakeholders, parties who have an interest in the company. Some of these stakeholders include customers, shareholders, management, and suppliers. Corporate governance’s focus is concentrated on the rights and obligations of three stakeholder groups in particular: the board of directors, management, and shareholders. Corporate governance determines how power is split between these three stakeholders. A company’s board of directors is the main stakeholder that influences the corporate governance of a company (Corporate Governance).
While for chocolate-lovers Switzerland is synonymous to a yummy heaven, for me the country, being the banking center of the continental Europe, equals to well-established traditions in the financial industry. If you want to learn something excellently, gain the knowledge from the best. Switzerland is one such place that will give me the opportunity to combine the values of both the highly-regarded education in finance and hands-on analysis of theories, applied in Swiss banking and financial systems.
