Recommended: Importance of information communication technology in education

1. INTRODUCTION
Information communication technologies (ICT) have been to found to play a very vital role in the world of work. However in their mandate to play such role the information communication technologies have brought its own challenges such as lack of skills to operate them. These challenges inhibit them from playing their vital role in the work of work.
The fundamental purpose of this essay is to discuss the role of information communication technology (ICTs) in an organization such as University of Botswana and the challenges it has brought. The essay will start by defining what information communication technology is all about and giving examples of such technologies. Secondly the essay will discuss the role of (ICTs) in University of Botswana using systems of blackboard and Website for illustrations of the role played. Further the essay will discuss the challenges (ICTs) has brought and provide recommendations to the challenges brought. In conclusion the essay will argue that the role of (ICTs) in University of Botswana is of great importance hence though it has brought challenges. To embark information communication technology will be defined.
Information communication technology refers to the combination of science and technology (Moursund, 2005).It further argues that it includes the full range of computer hardware and software telecommunications. Examples of such hardware include cell phones, internet, web, video cameras and wireless networking. Information communication technology is changing everyday in the world of work and it becomes advanced day by day. The roles of ICTs in University of Botswana have been discussed using blackboard and University Website to show the role of ICTs in the organization. It has shown that blackboard help in making the communication between lectures and students effective and efficient through its technological system. It has also shown that the university Website plays a role in promoting the University courses abroad which help to market the University in other countries. The Website also enables the University to communicate with its members through staff emails and student emails. Also the essay has shown the challenges brought by the ICTs. This includes lack of skills and knowledge to use them, lack of reliable and consistent electricity and poor internet connectivity and slow speed of internet.
