While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society because of the child labor, unfair firing laws, and horrible living conditions, it was actually a positive thing for society. Industrialization’s positive effects were new inventions were being created and put into use; things such as housing, transportation, and jobs were more common for people; and people would live longer due to healthy foods being grown. There were both many positive and negative things that had happened during the Industrial Revolution. Overall, more positive effects came out of it. During industrialization, many people had jobs, or tried to get a job with all the new factories being built. Even though people were working almost all day, there are many positive effects that would come out of this. A young 16 year old girl, named Mary Paul, worked in a textile factory during the year 1846. During her time there, she wrote a small excerpt showing others how much she enjoyed herself. “...I think that the factory is the best place for me and if any girl wants employment, I advise them to come to Lowell.” (Document1) This quote from her writing is perfect proof that working at such a young age is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Industrialization is the process in which an economy is changed from an agricultural economy to a manufacturing approach and manual labor is replaced by machines in factories. Industrialization brought a more diverse amount of goods and more total goods and improved living for many but, for others it resulted in harsh working and living conditions for the poor and working class. Many positives and negative were present during the industrialization of the U.S. Positives such as more goods being distributed, easier way of doing things, and being able to mass produce. Negatives like children working long and difficult jobs and many workers having poor working conditions.

It is the time when society started to mass produce goods in order to provide enough goods for the booming population. People started to move from villages to cities where factories were looking for workers. New medical advances were made and people began to live longer. The effects of industrialization were key in determining the state of our country as it is today. Two important effects were the new government regulations and the increasing immigration. The new government regulations are being affected positively by creating laws achieving better hours, better wages, and better working conditions for the employees. The increasing immigration brought diversity of races and removed discrimination in factories but it also caused that cities became overcrowded, dirty and dangerous places due to the violence and the easy expansion of diseases. The basis that built the US was given by the people who worked really hard trying to be treated equally and have the same rights as the others.
Children as young as young as five or seven years old worked in dangerous factories. Many times if the children fell asleep while on the job, they would slip and get stuck in the machines, resulting in death. Child labor in the late 1800’s was very unsafe and put the lives of young children in danger. The children worked in very dangerous conditions, most of the time it was factories. The conditions were very poor, the factories were dirty and unsafe for children. The children would work for up to sixteen hours with little to no pay.
Do you ever look at history and see both negative and positive in the same thing. This is like industrialization because at the time a lot was negative but later it became positive. During that time there were many factory owners that needed workers so there was gonna be a lot of job opening and that meant that some young children had to start working at a young for their families. No more would be goods be produced by sole means of farming and agriculture, but now by the use of machinery and factories. Imagine waking up at five in the morning to walk over a mile to a factory where you work until noon where you get a half hour break for lunch, then it’s back to work until nine or ten at night, when you are finally allowed to go home and you are only eight years old. Today that seems unimaginable, but during the early 19th century it was the everyday life of thousands of children whose ages range from as young as five until you died.
