A flourishing empire cultivated near the Andean cultures several centuries ago, with most of these societies centered near Cuzco, Peru. In the beginning, the values of the Incan people reflected one idea: equilibrium. Towards the end of the Incan society, the lives of each commoner will grow almost obsolete, especially for women.
Incan society thrived on the idea of men and women being treated as equals (except for a few physical limitations similar to strength, height, endurance, etc.). The community members worked together in a socialistic view for the benefit of all. Most colonists were men, so in order to reestablish a population they took women, usually virgins, from elite families to wed. Women in the poor, rural areas were subjected to abuse, prostitution, and rape. Going from equality to complete takeover is astonishing. Men turned their cheek to not notice the violence. They never stood up for women’s rights. They conformed to the desires of the Spaniards, giving up land, food, goods, resources, and rights along the way. Even priests were money hungry and did not care about society as a whole.
I wonder what the Incan society would be like if the Spanish had never invaded their land. Would the people still uphold the same rituals, beliefs, and culture as in the beginning? Would men and women be working side by side for the same pay? Would the community leaders have gained more power, creating a capitalist society? Would priests be corrupt? I assume that, with the way the economy was heading, that the leaders and the elites would acquire too much power, feeding off the socialist views and changing it into a capitalist society.
It would be amazing to be a part of the early Incan culture. Having society look after one another, and not worry about social class, wealth, or money is a great way to run a society. It seems similar to an ideal way of life; especially with the gender rights issues happening throughout the world at that
