The United States of America was proclaimed to be neutral at the beginning of the World Wars until acts of war were undertaken towards the United States. Eighteen and older men were automatically drafted into the US Military, Airforce, and Navy. The contributions from the civilians in the United States homefront helped the US economy continue to prosper during the World Wars and provide to the country’s ability to contribute the efforts of the military to defeat the Triple Alliance and the Axis Powers. In the home-front, there were many inventions made by the people in the US to support the war effort. Factories in Europe mass produced the materials that were needed for war; they produced guns, tanks ,airplanes ,automobiles ,ammunition and replacement parts needed for the war effort. Industrialisation helped the war effort tremendously, by producing the goods that were needed for the war. Without Industrialization, the weapons for the war wouldn’t be easily accessible. In the book, America’s Great War: World War I and the American Experience, Robert H. Zieger discusses the events between 1914 through 1920 forever defined the United States in the Twentieth Century. When conflict broke out in Europe in 1914, the President, Woodrow Wilson, along with the American people wished to remain neutral. In the beginning of the Twentieth Century United States politics was still based on the “isolationism” ideals of the previous century. The United States did not wish to be involved in European politics or world matters. The U.S. goal was to expand trade and commerce throughout the world and protect the borders of North America.
In the beginning of the war the United States, lead by President Woodrow Wilson, took the clear stance of neutrality. Yet there has been long standing debates as to why the United States entered World War 1 after claiming neutrality for so long. Some argue that it was directly affected by the discovery of the Zimmermann Telegram in January of 1917. While others debate it was an extensive string of events that lead to a declaration of war against Germany in April of the same year, yet the debates find a common ground on the lack of true neutrality on the part of the United States.
World War II opened a new chapter in the lives of Depression-weary Americans. The United States of America had an unusual importance in the war, it had been spared the physical destruction that had taken place throughout the world. Americans on the home front did not see the fighting and brutality as other countries experienced it. However, the events and changes on the home front due to the World War transformed America. One of the greatest conversions was that of the American woman. Women around the country were transformed from the average house wife into a person with a voice and most importantly a purpose.

World War II brought many new ideas and changes to American life. Even though World War II brought no physical destruction to the United States mainland, it did affect American society. Every aspect of American life was altered by U.S. involvement in the war including demographics, the labor force, economics and cultural trends.
The United States, at the time of World War II, was facing an economic depression which concerned the American public and President Roosevelt because they knew that America’s involvement with the war was inevitable. Most resources state that “the United States entered World War II largely unprepared” (America and Word War II 610). However, due to the fact that while preparing for the war there was an increase in economic growth, African Americans and women became more involved in industry and the military, and President Roosevelt incorporated several acts and embargos that encouraged Americans to produce more supplies as well as permitted Britain and France to purchase goods from the United States, it can be argued that America was in fact prepared for its entry into World War II. The external threads of continuity, such as economic, social, political, and geographic factors, had a greater impact on the United States preparedness for war, which resulted in the overall success of the Allied Powers.

World War I was the first war where the United States proved to the world we were a formidable power. Made up almost entirely of immigrants, America sent to Europe an armed force the fight against the Germans. The war brought a divided nation together as one. It represented pride and unity. The World War I victory portrayed the United States as a world superpower. Americans living in the early 1900s saw the war as a "just cause", and supported our actions abroad. World War II came just 20 years later. This time it was a single attack that drew us into the war. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor led us into World War II. The country furious with the cowardly assault; rallied, and stood behind the President's decision to send troops to the South Pacific and Europe. The American view on the war was very supportive. The country went to work manufacturing equipment offsetting the economic failure of the depression the United States was dealing with previous to the war.
World War I, a military conflict, began as a local European war between Austria-Hungary and Serbia in 1914. It was transformed into a general European struggle by declaration of war against Russia, and eventually became a global war involving 32 nations. Twenty- eight of these nations, known as the Allies and the Associated Powers, and including Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the United States, opposed the coalition known as the Central Powers, consisting of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey, and Bulgaria. World War I, was not only a dispute among nations, but also affected thousands of people from all over the world, including African Americans, women, and even business and economic changes. African Americans endured a great amount of racism during the war, especially from the military.
In Conclusion, the success of the war was substantial impacted by the work on the home front. However, even though it had a substantial impact it wasn’t the only reason America was so successful. The way the production changed during World War Two still impacts our lives today due to all the great inventions we got out of World War Two and the decades after.

While American soldiers were busy fighting on the front lines against the Axis Powers, Americans at home demonstrated Civic Responsibility and did their part during World War II by using their production or work system to produce useful things for the army. Civic responsibility is your duty as a citizen to try to help your country. America was on fire during the period of excitement. These new inventions are making home life easier for women and more enjoyable for the men. Not only were American families buying these new trinkets, but they also started purchasing stock in companies at an increased rate. A commodity that was available before the war but not readily accessed, now has as many as seven million Americans buying and owning company stock after the First World War. With the purchase of automobiles, washing machines, and stock, families were still not making enough to keep up.
The United States remained neutral in World War One because they saw it in their best interest. At the time the war began, the U.S. industry was struggling. Staying out of the war was a way to boost the industry in America by utilizing trade with both the Ally and Central Powers. The U.S. also had no real reason to join the war. They had close ties with both sides. Some problems, however, would arise that would question the U.S. decision to remain neutral and sway their opinions to one side of the war.
