Immigration In The Early 1900’s

In the early 1900’s immigration was less and more complicated then today. It was easier to get in and harder to make a living. In “The Sun From America” by Isaac Singer it took time to make a living in America.

There were many struggles for immigrants in the early 1900’s. One struggle was finding a job. Many ethnicities had a preferred job or job type. The Greek liked textile mills. Russian and Polish Jews had jobs stationed at pushcart markets or needle trade carts (“Immigration”). There were more struggles for Jewish immigrants. On the boat a lot of the times they ran out of kosher food before the journey was over. HIAS (The Hebrew Aid Society) was formed in 1902 and improved life considerably for Jewish
