The imagery of this movie was disgusting and I strongly believe that the producers had some sort of racial prejudices. The main reason for this belief is that the producers heavily portrayed the slaves with negative stereotypes throughout the movie. The stereotype of the "Happy slave," was prevalent throughout the film, which is seen when the slaves are laughing despite being victimized. An example of this is when a crowd of slaves laughed excitedly as a male slave was castrated. This makes it seem that the producers are trying to portray Blacks as violent savages restrained only by slavery. The plot of the story revolves around a group of filmmakers who decide to go back to the antebellum period. Their reason for going back to the past is too find the origin of the racial tension in the United States. They start off at a New Orleans plantation where they interview several aristocratic Southerners, but what intrigues me is what occurred at the end of the movie. …show more content…

According to the producers, the actors who played the roles of slaves were impoverished Haitians. This would explain why the actors were willing to degrade themselves in many of the explicit scene, such as the auction scenes. In the auction scene the slaves were naked or near naked. This would also explain why the parents of the child actors would allowed their children to be presented in a grotesque manner. This can be seen in the movie when young girls were offered to old pedophiles for sexual purposes and in one scene a 13 year old begged the "interviewer" to have sexual relations. A scene that has been difficult to forget for me is when there is a shot of a little white girl and a little black boy running through a field together.
