Its as if horse riding runs through my family’s blood. My grandmother rode horses, my mother rode horses, and she eventually passed that love to me. Growing up hearing about all the amazing things my mom had done with this sport made me want to go out and experience it myself. From a young age my mom encouraged me to love horses, but she never really had to. I had a love for these gentle giants all on my own. We have a picture of me when i was two years old, hanging on our fridge. In the picture i am feeding the horse a carrot out of my hand. Its as if i can go back to that exact moment and remember his wiry yet soft whiskers rubbing against my hand. When he nibbled on my fingers, it tickled my childish mind, making me giggle. Connecting with your horse, right posture, always thinking a step ahead and making sure you and your horse are safe, are just a few things you have to conquer to ride horses. Many people don’t see riding as a sport, but like football or soccer, you have to condition yourself for the challenges that may arise. These challenges made me into a stronger person mentally and physically. It taught me strength out on the course and in every other aspect of my life. Although riding taught much about patience, independence and hard work, that is not the reason i so love this sport. I love riding because I could always count on the barn to make me feel at home, or my horse to be there when id had a bad day. The feeling of two individuals becoming one, so beautifully matched, that it is impossible to tell where rider ends and horse begins. When others think about riding, they may not see it as a sport, but they also don’t see the love a rider has for their horse. For me, riding comfortated me in a tough time with my family. Being able to create a sort of art with my horse made me feel purposeful and proud. When i mounted my horse, i lay all my day’s worries behind
