I am in love. Not with a person. Not with a thing. But with a place. The only place I have ever lived and the only place I have ever loved. This place is my home. My heart. My inspiration. My Washington, D.C.
Washington is known all around the world for three main things: the President, the monuments, and the museums. Yes, these things are a big part of Washington but the city is also so much more than that.
Growing up in the nation’s capital allowed me a very unique childhood, filled with exploring and experiencing all the District of Columbia has to offer. It all began when I was about 4 years old, on a dull saturday morning, when my dad said to me, “Let’s go on an adventure!” These 5 words became my favorite words to hear on the weekend. Going on an adventure meant experiencing something new whether it be new foods from different parts of the world or it be experiencing a new part of the city. I loved every second of it. on my own. After a brutal winter, I experienced the beautiful cherry blossoms on the Tidal Basin blooming in the spring. I discovered that the Korean tacos from Union Market are arguably the best tacos in the city. I experienced playing a soccer game against the Malia Obama and after the game getting to meet the president. I discovered the importance of always cheering for your home teams (even if they always lose.) I experienced the magic of the monuments glowing at night without all the hustle and bustle of the tourists. I experienced a scavenger hunt for my art history class, involving running from museums and monuments all over Washington. I experienced the privilege of living next to Fort Reno, a national park, that boasts giant hills for sledding during the winter and a stage used during the summer for free concerts. All of these experiences helped me see how special D.C. truly
