Cody Crane gives a description of the expedition of a group of scientist who explored Mount Nyiragongo. Mount Nyiragongo is a volcano that is extremely active and unstable. Nyiragongo is a stratovolcano; a stratovolcano is a very dangerous and explosive long lived volcano. A unique property mentioned in the article of Nyiragongo volcano is that it has low silica content (Crane, 2011). Usually stratovolcanoes will have higher level silica content. The levels of silica are a determining factor on how big the explosion will be. The higher amounts of silica, the more gas it will trap, making the eruption more violent. However, the more silica, the more viscous the lava is. Nyiragongo volcano has low viscosity lava; therefore, it has an accelerated lava flow. Crane states that the quickness of the lava flow is a disadvantage for the citizens of Goma because it reduces the amount of evacuation time (Crane, 2011).
An important question might be why is the reason for deciding to establish a community in such dangerous place. Besides the political inconveniences the residents of the area are facing, the area that surrounds the volcano is affluent in minerals. The soil might be great for crops; nevertheless, the citizens face a give and take situation. Crane points out that the toxic airs from the volcano decreases the quality of air, water, and food (Crane, 2011). Also, one can truly never know when the next massive eruption might happen. Scientist can attempt to predict a possible time period of when the risk of an explosion is high; however, as of now, it is impossible to predict the exact time and date of the next eruption (Crane, 2011)

...ngerous factor is extremely fascinating. Being able to acquire samples of the volcano is very important. The samples will help researchers understand the components and the behavior of Nyiragongo a little bit more. Since we do not know when the next eruption will happen, collecting and analyzing information is truly critical. Even if the scientist was wearing a protective suit, being so close to the lava is extremely dangerous. The fact that a scientist is risking its life to study and analyze the volcano is a prime example of how complex and important the information is. The article left me wondering when the next explosion will be and if there is any chance of surviving if the volcano erupts at its full capacity. The explosion of Mount St. Helens was so enormous that a part of the volcano was blown off. I wonder if Nyiragongo will experience similar consequences.
Between 1865 and 1900 technology, economic conditions, and government policy influenced American Agriculture greater than it ever had before. Technologically, Railroads, factories, and farm equipment changed American agriculture by allowing the production of farmed goods to be increased substantially, while economic conditions caused the prices of these goods to go down and then fluctuate. Farmers hurting from the economic disarray began influencing the laws being passed to help them in their economic troubles. Because of the influence of technology, government policy, and economic conditions between the 1865 and 1900 American agriculture was affected.

The article lists volcanoes that have erupted and when they did so. Throughout the article there are pictures of volcanoes and the corresponding text shows what is being done to monitor them. The focus of the piece is the danger to Seattle and Tacoma posed by Mt. Rainier. The sand is rainy. There is an illustration of the danger zones of Mt. Rainier when it goes off and the towns that would be destroyed by it.
The first time I saw Mt. Rainier for myself, was last summer when my boyfriend and I drove to Washington. It was the most beautiful, peaceful looking mountain I have ever seen. However, underneath it's great beauty, it hides a deadly secret. Mt. Rainier is one of the most dangerous volcanoes that we have here in the United States. One of the reasons it is so dangerous is because of it's great beauty. People enjoy looking at it, and the area that surrounds it, so they have made their homes here. Mt Rainier is not the only volcano I am interested in, in fact this last summer I also went to Mt. St. Helens and Crater Lake. But it is the volcano I chose to research for this paper because it does have so much beauty and at the same time so much power. I already know the basics about volcanoes, how they form, the different types, etc., but I wanted to find out more about what would happen if this great volcano were to erupt, what type of eruption would it be, and how would it affect the people that live around it.
If man and the woman both had the same communication ways they would be more successful in marriage. Many of the communication issues are brought up in the article “Sex, Lies, and Conversation by Deborah Tannen.” Tannen states that men and women argue with one another over communication which leads to marital problems and divorce. Men and women have different viewpoints on communication. Women see bad communication as the one of the major reasons for divorce. Also the way men and women communicate are very different. Men are very different than women they do not like to communicate as much like women. Men don’t talk about their problems and women love to talk about them. Communication is seen as one major cause leading to a relationship failure. When couples get married the women is always looking for a good comuincator.
On the morning of June 6th, 1912, the ground of the southern Alaskan peninsula began to shake with extreme force. This force, when later analyzed turned out to be the most powerful volcanic eruption of the 20th century. This newly formed caldera volcano later known, as Novarupta, literally translated as “new eruption”, is located in Katmai National Park and Reserve on the Alaskan Aleutian Range (Pidwirny and Jones 2009). Novarupta’s eruption caused immediate impacts to the native Alaskan climate as well as impacts to earth’s global climate overall. Volcanoes can leave enormous impacts locally to geography and ecosystems, but because of Novarupta’s status as the strongest volcanic eruption in Alaska’s recorded history, Novarupta left local as well as global impacts on earth’s climate. The Novarupta volcano eruption negatively impacted global climate by expelling a wide aerosol/dust veil of volcanic ash that decreased global temperature significantly, releasing oxides into the atmosphere, and triggering numerous earthquakes after the initial eruption.
Although volcanoes are difficult to predict, geologists have made many efforts in order to caution the people of Orting and other surrounding towns of possible lahar slides. Residents have been made aware of emergency response plans and they know the proper precautions to take in the case of a volcanic activity emergency. Sirens have been put into place by the fire department and governing bodies of surrounding communities that detect volcanic activity and warn the community of ...
Maturity is a coming of age when a person is growing emotionally and mentally. Maturity is gained by experiences and decision-making, thus learning from mistakes. This is evident in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Through characterization and symbolism Lee displays maturity.
According to Oregon’s Public Health website, since October 27, 1997, 1,173 Oregon residents have obtained lethal prescriptions to end their lives using the Death with Dignity Act. As of 2014, only two states have legalized this controversial procedure. The states of Oregon and Washington allow their terminally ill residents to choose whether or not they have to suffer. Religious beliefs, moral beliefs, and ethical standards should not be forced upon a patient by anyone other than themselves. Every citizen has the right to autonomy and should be able to decide on their own how they want to live their life. Therefore, the Death with Dignity Act should be legalized in all 50 states.
Many of us know Mount Shasta to be a beautiful mountain and a popular tourist location in California. However, this mountain is much more than that, this mountain is actually a volcano. Volcanoes come with a number of hazards and a volcano of this size is of no exception. Previous eruptions on Mount Shasta have given us an idea of the power this volcano has and the damage it may do. With this information scientists are able to predict what may happen should another explosion occur.
Stories about volcanoes are captivating. Myths come in different versions, but all of them are capable of capturing yours, and everybody’s imagination.

There are other short-term effects, and these effects don’t just take place in the area of an eruption, but expands to other parts of the world. Globally, what has become an issue of its own is climate change. In the Encyclopedia Britannica, Jackson (2013) defined climate change as a “periodic modification of Earth's climate brought about as a result of changes in the atmosphere as well as interactions between the atmosphere and various other geologic, chemical, biological, and geographic factors within the Earth system.” With all of the debris that enters the atmosphere from eruptions, volcanoes can make an impact on climate change. Volcanic activity can cause global cooling, but some sources say that it has the potential to impact global warming as well, due to the amount of carbon dioxide (CO...
