The Declaration of Independence declared that all 13 colonies while at war would be able to announce themselves as newly independent and it would free them of being ruled by the British. Congress agreed that they’d want the youngest member of the congress to constitute an informal draft of the Declaration of Independence that would be edited by the other congress members after he finished writing the informal draft. “As Jefferson drafted it, the Declaration of Independence was divided into five sections, including an introduction, a preamble, a body (divided into two sections) and a conclusion.” In the process of Jefferson writing the Declaration of Independence, he stated that all men have equality. They chose John Adams; Massachusetts, Roger Sherman; Connecticut, Benjamin Franklin; Pennsylvania, Robert Livingston; New York and Thomas Jefferson; Virginia. Very little changes were made to the Declaration of Independence after Jefferson and the other 4 men finished the rough draft. Some delegates from South Carolina, Georgia, and New England did not agree with some of the thing Jefferson wrote about the slave trade the Declaration rough draft. Congress was fighting for and against and after many arguments and disagreements any words that had to do with slavery were taken out. July 2nd - July 4 Congress made changes to Jefferson’s draft. Later on the fourth day in July, the Declaration of Independence was approved by congress and the 13 colonies gained their independence. July 8th, the Declaration was read to Philadelphia and the 13 states were thrilled about it. On August 2nd, all 13 states declared for a new declaration and sure enough a new Declaration was written and signed by every congress member including a young Thomas
