How would you feel if the people you grew up with turned on you, if the things you believed in were being used against you, if the people you loved were being taken from you. This is what happened in the crucible, crucible it’s self is defined by Dictionary.com as “ a severe, searching test or trial.”, and that is exactly what happened to the town of Salem in the book. In the town of Salem it was an average hard working puritan life, until abigail changed everything by dancing in the woods. After that everything went downhill from there with Rev. Hale coming into town and then to the Salem witches calling other women that have offended them to trial Hanging or sending them to Jail. There are no grey areas between the two, the grey areas are decided upon personal belief, connections, and vindications by others. In the Crucible why readers are able to see the line of good and evil, characters are blind. Good men are blind, they are being blinded by the lies and vindications of abagail. She is able to twist the town, making them fall to their knees, and secretly obey her will. She fools all , putting the town through hell, creating her own personal crucible for the people that live within Salem. Our three characters were mere pawns in the scheme of abigail; who herself was lost in her own wake and lost grip of her town killing the man she loved, her own reason for this mess was killed. John passed he died with a clear conscious taking the road less traveled, Parris failed letting his ego get the best of him, Hale passed letting his newfound love for the town decide his decisions in the latter part of the book. These men had the choices, the control of their lives as do we. We have the choices to decide the two things most basic, two things known by every child, the two things that decide our own persona; good and evil. I pray that you make the right choice and follow your own basic human nature, use your moral compass, decide good vs evil, and get past your own
