There are a multitude of values that I hold. Those values are reminders that I want to be a better person everyday. This is what many religions strive to do. They are tools to guide people into shaping their values and morals so as to create a world of better people. As John Hicks explained, all religions have the same end goal in mind, they just different ways of achieving that goal. (Nichols) My world view is agnostic who leans more towards the Christian end of religion. I neither accept nor reject the Christian worldview because I have not seen evidence for it. In other words, I agree with the Christian Humanist standpoint that all humans are born with dignity simply because they are in existence (Reuter). Jesus was the poster person for Christian humanism. Jesus loved God, loved his neighbors, and loved himself. He put it to action by associating himself with the marginalized people of his time. He preached and spread love to women such as Mary Magdalen, the hated such as Mathew a tax collector, and the disabled. Sachs wrote that people have inherent dignity because everybody was created in the image of god. (Sachs) However, since I neither accept nor reject the existence of God my reasoning is different from that of which Sach’s wrote about. I believe people have inherent dignity simply because they exist and its only right that all humans are treated equally when they enter the world. I believe that every person has a breaking point. At that point, love vanishes. People can push those that love them far away and although there may be forgiveness that stems from it, the love can not be reestablished like it was before. It has been said that the love between a mother and child is a bond that can never be broken but I believe that it can be. A child can cause a mother so much pain that she eventually become nonchalant about the relationship that exists between herself and her child. The idea of love being infinite is a strong message to send out to people and drawn them into religion but it is not realistic in my eyes. I believe that love can be fleeting. This is something that happens with relationships often. People love each other for just a certain amount of time, and then they don’t. I do not believe that people should love everyone but I do believe that they should treat everyone with
