World war 1 or known by most people the Great War was one of the biggest wars in history and really impacted this world and change the course of our lives forever. World war 1 could have been avoided but we were exposed to the creation of alliances, nationalism and for many countries the thirst of militarism made the war begin and not end for a great amount of time. If we could have prevented these things and not let them affect our decisions the war would/could have never started. One thing that could have helped prevent the war was if the creation of alliances were never created. An alliance is when you are supportive/associated with another country and you support them when they need your help. On june 28th 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria who was heir to the throne was assassinated by a serbian terrorist group. Nationalism was probably one of the most powerful forces of this era and really impacted the people and the government. Nationalism gave people pride for there country and they thrived for there country to become a world power. Germany was a major believer in nationalism because they wanted to become a major world power. Germany wanted to become a world power so bad but they needed to find a way in accomplishing it. Germany unlike their allie austria had a very patriotic country and pushed to start the war to acquire there World power status. Austria had very low nationalism because they had many different nationalities in their country’s. Despite this, after the assassination of the Archduke, Austria banded together with the help of germany and declared war on serbia. Originally Austria provided demands from serbia in which they completed all but one but the push of germany made them declare war.
