To What Extent Could World War I Have Been Avoided

Could World War I have been avoided? In my opinion I do not believe World War I could have been avoided because of the situation the nations had created and events leading up to the war. First off the alliance system caused many problems. It created secrecy between nations and forced nations to go to war. Nations couldn't leave alliances which meant if one nation in the alliance made a bad decision the others had to go in on it. Countries turned on each other. Because of alliances many nations grew suspicious of each other and trust between them was lost. Also nationalism and imperialism were big causes for war. They both could have not occurred or been limited. Nationalism caused a sense of competitive ways, selfish ways, and believing that other nations were less important. Since other nations did not agree that opposing nations were more important they began to outbreak and seemed to challenge each other. Imperialism sparked World War 1 in a big way too. Imperialism is the belief that bigger/stronger nations should conquer smaller/ weaker ones. World War 1 solved who was stronger and a “greater” nation. Franz Ferdinand was an Archduke of Austria-Este, Austro-Hungarian and Royal Prince of Hungary and Bohemia. Therefore he was a very important person of Austria Hungary. Him and his wife were visiting Sarajevo when The Black Hand ( a Serbian terrorist group ) spotted him. They attempted to kill him once but accidently injured an innocent bystander instead. Later at a cafe he was shot by a member and killed. His wife was killed to. This caused Austria Hungary to grow very angry with Serbian people and soon declared war on Serbia on July 28, 1914 exactly a month after Ferdinand's
