How Is The Odyssey Relevant Today

Despite both being credited to the same poet in 750 B.C., reading “The Odyssey” is not much at all like reading “The Iliad”. While both are phenomenal examples of an epic poem, they’re similar to walking a mental tightrope,such poetic styles being left behind long ago. However, while “The Iliad” is significantly longer than “The Odyssey”, one may only have the time to read one.
“The Iliad” is a more exhilarating read than “The Odyssey” because of its much more drastic focuses on war and death and almost senseless violence, but consistent humanization of every death, and while “The Odyssey” may not have such blatant themes, it focuses on much more relevant issues and themes we see today, such as the importance of family and the urgency of love.

Life goes on and now one would have a clearer view of this character and consequently of every character dying. Every man is the same once dead.
Now in a completely different tone, “The Odyssey” focuses on the journey of Odysseus and his trials to get back home, his motivation often being his wife and son, Penelope and Telemachus, and stopping the suitors that continuously come for his wife, the belief at home being that Odysseus would not return.
Because of this, “The Odyssey” is often seen as an easier book to read and much more appropriate for children. It’s central themes being things that are much more prevalent today, such as family, purpose of strength and mind, and love, it's easier to empathize with Odysseus as he travels. Often we see Pallas Athene (more commonly known as Athena) helping him on his journey, and gods often playing a significant role.
